More turkey hunting:

for the past eight years or so (since I've moved back to Alabama), I've had turkey dreams in the weeks leading up to the season. How early they've started, and how nightmarish they are, usually dictate how my season goes.

Turkeys drive me crazy.

You are crazy. I imagine you walking into thanksgiving dinner, shouting obscenities and blowing the fresh-baked turkey away with your 12 gauge.

The more nightmarish, the better?

I'm completely insane.

I've never tried to hide that. Besides, it would be impossible to hide.

I wish I was back home to hear them sound off at daybreak. There are not any turkeys here is Kyrgistan that I have heard. I found out I will be rotating home two weeks early so I should have three weeks to turkey hunt. I am stoked!!!!!!

Should have swerved.

We have turkey road strikes here all the time. They can do some serious damage to a vehicle...but hey! Free turkey!

Bow hunting in Sonora, first week in April. Coincidentally turkeys were spotted on my inlaw's farm this morning. Been about 20 years since anyone has seen one around there......I may go to Albany, TX. just to tune up and maybe shoot a hog or ten, and there's tons of turkeys there. Getting a bird with a bow, that's a whole other ball of wax. I need a Double Bull blind to hunt from as I shoot traditional gear and you can't hold infinitely with a 57# recurve.

Today we had a big old tom strutting his stuff for the ladies, about 35 of them, then a couple of eagles came along and started to harass him. Poor tom, he'd just landed and the eagles showed up and chased all the ladies off. They almost got him too. At the last second before he was to get a talon embrace he ducked and ran to the side. I wanted to see the kill.

Hypothetically speaking, an eagle could get killed doing that around certain people I know.

Here's some birds I saw last summer while scouting for elk and grouse.

Attachment 215266

This area is closed to turkeys. I didn't draw my nearby area last year or this year.

We start in April, but with the friggin' snow we've got this year, I can't imagine it being good until May.

Anyways, let's get back to making fun of Skillet's trailer...

I called in an eagle while turkey hunting a few years ago. I let him live (this time)...

Eagles are basically vultures. If you want to see bald eagles, and I mean lots of bald eagles, go to the dump outside Anchorage. Why you would consider an eagle sacred but a coyote a nuisance is beyond me.

Eagles are not so common around here. Coyotes are all over the place. I wouldn't kill a wolf or a bear for the same reason.

There are 18 birds behind my office right this minute.

7 are huge toms with very nice beards.
