Fun targets?

This looks like it's be fun at the range:

Pistol Training Target Cube, Shooting Supplies, Ballistic Tech at Sportsman's Guide

Waste of money?

What's your favorite thing to shoot at when at a controlled range where you bring your own targets? (I.e., no glass, foodstuffs, etc.)

Last weekend, I used wood stakes with paper plates out in BLM land. The coolest one was the face my son drew...........it had a goatee

That mean plate got its eyes shot out

"Add some action to your pistol shooting! This 3D Cube bounces, rolls, flips and jumps when shot... up to 8 feet vertically if you hit just right! The airborne lift gives you all kinds of opportunities for secondary mid-air shots. You'll be a trick-shooting pro in no time! The virtually impervious ballistic polymer construction accepts shots from any centerfire pistol caliber."

Or you'll have thrown so much random lead that your local PD may be contacting you.

I usually print off some gopher targets and I also like the shoot and see's. I can email you the varmit in a .pdf if you want it, Curtis.

Here's some others I like:

I wasn't plannin' on tryin' the "secondary mid-air shots".

I just bet it'd be fun at the section of our range with the 25yd berm/backstop. I think one could keep bouncing it up and down the embankment indefinitely without ever having to reset it.

Have you tried the spinning target? They're pretty fun. The self resetting one's are OK, too.

You can't beat a Crisco Can full of water with the lid on it...big caliber or wadcutter and you get some neat action...

course when I use to do that Crisco cans had the metal lid that pushed back on pretty tight. But Water don't compress real well so any tight container full of it will blow out the back pretty nicely (or just blow the can apart at the seams)..shows off that small entry, large exit potential of the hollow point etc...I reckon plastic jugs etc will do the same...

I also take the newspaper print art paper in the BIG tablets, then I trace what ever I want on the sheets..Had my wife lay down and I traced her form on a couple of sheets...kinda pissed her off when she figured out what I was dong...

Oh, and don't be a ASS..pack out your target material..

This is definitely a "bus your own table" range, and folks there are generally pretty darn good about it. There's also a designated area where you can leave cardboard boxes and such for other shooters.

Not at the range (maybe you could) but I found a couple things that were a blast to use for target practice and I didn't have to clean up afterward (again, not at a range)

1. Frozen water balloons. When setting up tear off the rubber leaving shiny frozen balls of ice waiting to be pulverized. I have an extra freezer and a "fill station" to fill the balloons up quick. I would just throw all the frozen balloons into a garbage can in the back of my truck and be off.

2. Ritz crackers. They are just the right size for all kinds of target practice. They show a hit really well. The birds love you for life.

Up here in the Northwest there are some sorryass 'outdoorsmen" Take the propane tank off the old grill..haul it out to a cinder cone and blast the crap out of it then, leave it..

Sure it's a small percentage but enough to make a eyesore and telegraph to non-gub users that we're all a bunch of slobs...

But I just posted the comment for maybe the folks that might not have been told or maybe don't have any upbringing...so no offense meant to you folks brung up right..

I think they'd let us do that.

They're ok with milk jugs full of water, for example (I always bring one or two), as long as you clean up.

Clean up (or the lack thereof) is wonderful. They look cool as well when they shatter.

After I finished poking holes yesterday I cleaned up the range. By busting all the little pieces of clay pigeon left by others into dust. Great practice at varying ranges on small to medium sized targets.

Tanenite is always fun. Most ranges will kick you out if you use it.

i make my own targets, most of the time.
these are what i use for pistol work.
10GA SS ~3"dia. whack them and they fly like hell, but the shiney makes them easy to find most of the time.
rifles chew them up, for them i like .25'' or .375'' PL

Bowling pins are awesome to shoot at. They just keep rolling around and will take lots of rounds. No, they don't shatter. They are tough as hell. Go to your local alley and ask the manager if they have any that they are going to get rid of. You will probably be able to get a couple of cases. They generally just throw them out.

Or, was he saying that he shoots skeet with a rifle? I have heard other similarly outlandish claims on mud.
