Pet hand-loads
I thought it might be interesting to start a thread where folks can post-up favorite loads for others to view.
I'll start it with a couple of my favorites:
.30-06 match for M-1:
46 grains of IMR4895 with a CCI #34 mil-spec primer, LC brass and a 175 grain Sierra Matchking.
.300 WSM:
66 grains of IMR 4831 with a CCI large rifle magnum primer, Winchester brass and a 180 grain Barnes Tripple Shock.
.22-250 Remington:
35 grains of IMR 4895 with a CCI standard primer and a 55 grain Sierra Gameking spitzer boat-tail.
Disclaimer:
Handload at your own risk and do consult current manuals for further details.

350 Rem Mag.
65gr - H380 - 200 gr Hornady SP - CCI 200 - R/P case
vel. 2844 - 1 1/4" 3 shot @ 100yds - Remington 700 Classic
35 Whelan.
55gr - IMR 3031 - 200 gr Hornady SP - WW primer - R/P case - vel. 2720 - 1" 3 shot @ 100 yds -
Remington 7600 pump (and a cheap 1.5-4.5 Scopechief .. darn nice scopes for the money!)
The 35's are just the ticket for Ontario whitetail (course .. so is the 243W with 100gr Noslers)
243 W
40gr - IMR 4350 - 100 gr Nosler - WW primer - Federal case - vel. 2820 - 1 1/2" 3 shot @ 100 yds - Sako mannlicher stock carbine (18 1/2" barrel? - should measure it one day). Group is pretty average but very consistent year to year!
I have a heck of a load for the 270W with 160gr Noslers but alas I am using a bulk surplus powder that is labeled somewhat enigmatically as "#49" ... I believe it is a Bofors or Norma powder ... but 'Ol #49 drives the 160 gr over 2900 fps (according to my cheap "Chrony") and is more accurate than me... bless Jack O'Connor's little heart!
oh yes .. see Dan's disclaimer above -obviously it also applies here

I had two favorite loads for my Ultra Light 7mm-08:
140 TSX, Remington Brass, Federal 210M, 40gr Varget = Avg 2,760 over the croni.
120 TSX, " ", " ", 45gr Varget = 3,200 over the croni. Very accurate, pushing 1/2' moa.
My 300 wm loads were pretty hot so I won't go there.

CZ 527 Kevlar Stock .223 1/9 twist
Lake City Brass
Gold Match Primers
26.5 Gr Varget
55 Gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
Shoots 1/2" groups or less every time. I tried about every bullet from 50-79 grains and this one seemed to work the best the CZ 527. Though the Sierra Blitz King seem to offer more expansion in field tests.

Rem. 788 in .223: 25gr IMR 4895, 55gr vmax, Win. brass, CCI 400 primer This load shoots pretty good, I am sure with a calm day i could shrink the group even more. I have shot groups in the .300 MOA range on my best days.

Nice group.
I too have used 25 grains of IMR4895 and the CCI400 but with a Sierra Gameking 55 grain spitzer boattail.

Anyone reload anything in the .223 with a 1/7 twist? For use in for say an AR-15 or Noveske N-4?

You should really try the Nosler Ballistic Tip. I shot them all in the same LC brass including Vmax and Sierra BK/MK/GK.
For some reason the Nosler groups are half the size.

I shot my garand a little over the weekend mostly surplus ammo, i loaded up about 20rds with 50grs Varget, HXP cases, 175 sierra BTHPs, it liked it pretty good.
Cruiserdan, what would cause it to double with the reloads but not with the surplus stuff?
It could of been me since the reloads were a little stronger than what the gun is used to.

A possible high primer. that would give you a slam-fire.

I shot this with my Rem 700 BDL LH - recipe was 1F Rem brass, Rem 9.5 primer, 40 grains H380, and a 55gr Nosler BT.
I shot this with the same rifle, new Rem brass, Rem 9.5 primer, 36 grains IMR4064, and a 52gr Hornady BTHP Match bullet.

What primer did you use for your reload? Surplus ammunition typically uses hard primers to prevent slamfires. I never had a slamfire in my MAK90 until I started handloading for it - I tried Rem 6.5 primers (small primer pocket Rem brass) and had a lot of slamfires - I've since gone to a CCI 450 and it still doubles occasionally. CCI military primers (#41?) are supposed to be much harder, to prevent doubling.

I recommend the CCI mil-spec primers for auto-loading rifles. I use the #34 for the Garand.

I used a Federal #210, I think the primers are soft because i have never had a slamfire until i shot those reloads the other day. I use the same primers and reload for my AR10 and have yet to have a problem, go figure?

My 788 .223 prefers the lighter bullets. Suggest trying some 52's or 53's. Haven't shot that rifle in years, but my memory recalls best effort groups in the .325" range and worst effort groups rarely exceeding .5" @ 100yds unless Ojai's famous wind kicked up.

Heavy's for that twist, light bullets can go fast enough (even with the 5.56's tiny case) to explode at the muzzle due to centripetal force.
If you shoot lights in it, approach high velocity with caution.
