Just wanted to show my handgun safe solution. It uses a (American made) Simplex lock w/2,200 combinations, is CA DOJ approved, and has a holster that holds the gun and slides it out for access as you open the safe door. The safe is manufactured in China. It is made of "hardened" 14G steel. It comes with two mounting plates, one is easily used for under a bed, the other I have mounted on my center console. The center console is plastic, I used bolt/nut/washer to attach the plate to the console, and I think it is actually quite securely mounted to the console, the console itself is very difficult to remove with out the right number and type of open end wrench/sockets/etc, so overall I feel it is about as "safe" as is practical. Titan Gun Vault
I looked at those, the reason i went with the one I got, is that there is no key, and there is no battery/electronics. Very simple, but effective simplex lock was my first choice. Though anything can be broken into, it seems to fit my needs.
I don't have the LX470 anymore, so not sure how it would fit. i did end up putting 2 un-needed holes in my LX450 console, trying to get everything lined up, so the box would not interfere with the parking brake, or stick out past the back of the console. I would say the mounting plate adds a 1/4- 1/2 inch to the width when mounted.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I bought it from ebay where titan vault was selling one or two a week for $179, which is $20 off the retail price of $199, listed on their website. Spendy, but worth it for the versatility, and safety around my kids, the primary reason I bought a quick access safe.
My only critique is that it is too visible and too obvious that something of value is in there.
Don't get me wrong, but... if I'm breaking into your truck to begin with, I have tools with me to rip that right out.
I have the same safe as yooper and found it too big to mount in the 80 without getting in the way. I did bolt it down behind the 3rd row but took it out later.
I very much like your safe and will likely pick one up. I dig how the holster is moved in and out when moving the lid.
sigh.. if only we could keep it on our hip where it belongs... every where we go... we wouldn't have this problem. Too bad I vote, drink, go to the post office, work at a school and find myself in Federal buildings once in awhile.

btw, nice sig.
It is visible, but it was the least visible area, where I could still have quick access. It is also very rarely left in there, if I am not in the vehicle. The best compromise I could find, and probably not as noticeable as you think it is.
Stick you finger on it Bam your in and know one else can.
No key, no combo and only your finger print can open it.
It's what I keep locked to the bed frame with the Kimber in.

Kinda looks like a CB at first glance--maybe attach a dummy cord in the vicinity.....
Nice work!

If I pop over to Portland (Oregon) for some reason, where I do not have a CCW. Or if I go to a business that does not allow guns for some reason, or "just in case" of something I haven't foreseen, it's nice to have a secure place to store the gun.
I actually bought one of those first. It will do the job, but the thin cable, and somewhat thin metal didn't inspire confidence, so I returned it. In reality, it probably serves the purpose almost the same, and it can be hidden better. I must reiterate, that I love the simplex lock, over a key or electronics though.

Funny...... guess they'ed have to get by the S&W 357 in my pocket first! I don't think they would get 10 tries to get it right. I don't give up my digits easily.

Suppose I want my gun for *any* reason during the day. Not even necessarily protection (I do have a CCW license); maybe just a trip to the range after work. Well, my workplace does not allow firearms on the premises. So...
