Freshwater bonefish!

Been reading quite a bit about this new craze with freshwater bonefish and this morning am watching a fishing show on guys flyfishing for freshwater bonefish. These freshwater bonefish, better known to us as carp are cousins to the saltwater bonefish that are now so highly coveted to many flyfisherman. Last year I found what I thought was going to be a fishing honey hole while scouting for hunting spots when I saw big rips of fish in shallow water. I found a similar spot a while back that was home to a few 5+ pound Browns and i thought I had found another one. Well it turns out when I went back to fish it that they were carp. But the walk was long and I thought what the heck. I hate carp, but I tell you what.......hanging an 8lb+ fish on a 5-6 flyrod with 4x tippet is a blast. I caught four in an hour 1/2 and the smallest was probably 5+ and the biggest approaching 12. They took me 10+ minutes a piece to land. They are so ugly that I still couldn't bring myself to hold one but I did release them for another day of fun. I hate to admit it, but it was by far some of the funnest fishing I have ever had. I mentioned it to the local flyshop owner and they mentioned a few guys that purposely flyfish for carp. They also said that saltwater bonefish are considered to be inedible trash fish to the locals where they are at. Just thought I'd put the idea out there! Happy Fishing!

Carp can be fun. As a kid, we would nail 'em with our archery bows.

You are right, bonefish are inedible. I am going to start calling them Saltwater Carp.

Nice catch on a fly rod.

supposedly bonefish are related to tarpon, though I've never seen all that many similiarities between them but they're both fun to catch.

A couple years ago, some guy hooked up with an 18 pound carp in a lake around here.
