Any experience with Sig's 556?

I have a buddy up in WA who is looking into one of these.

Looks very nice to me but I am looking for some good input to pass along.

My Sig 229 has never done me wrong but that is a whole different animal.

Anyone have info?

Yea, I said the same thing to my buddy in WA.

He called me to talk about it and his exact words...

"Well, it is like an AR, except way more pissed off."

Now I want one. CA laws blow.

Well, you can send the neighborhood cats running from your old kitty's food and impress the local kids as well.

You have a 229? Of all the gubs I own, my 229 in .357sig is my hands down favorite. It may in fact be my all time favorite of all I have ever owned.

Definite bummer about us not being able to legally own a Sig 556, cuz I would have already bought one. I don't think you could go wrong, just based on Sig reputation.

Maybe if we get MonsterMan to make a non-pistol grip, and put a fixed stock in place of the collapsible one it could squeak by in Kali.

Skillett,
The 556 I have is quite reliable and pretty accurate. Not quite as accurate as my RR mid length but it will work in a pinch. It is cleaner to operate not being a "gas impingment" system. The concrete commando stock is a joke and just had to go but other than that it has its place. Just so you know and pass it on to your friend, the 556 does a job on the finish of the upper receiver at the rear of the ejection port. Bounces brass off the receiver and, on mine at least removed the finish completely (down to bare metal). So far Sig has told me an "upper management decision" has been it is not an issue they will address. I know other owners that have had their uppers repaired/replaced by Sig. Maybe they just didn't like where I live or something. Other than that, the rifle is a plus. I won't say its the best the worlds ever seen but it is good. Tell your friend to shop it around as better prices can be had if the buyer does some looking. I say that as too damn many dealers think since it says Sig they can sell them at full mark up. NOT.

Yes, my 229 is one of my favorites for sure. That and my .44 mag, I am torn.

I don't have the .357 barrell but have been meaning to pick one up as I have heard that is an outstanding round.

All in good time.

Great information, thanks. I will pass this along. Wish I could just hold one and see how it feels. Stupid restrictions.

I can run down right now and buy a mini 14 but not one of these. No sir.

sig 556 commando

I recently bought my sig 556 commando, and it is good but not great. I have a couple m4 type ARs and frankly find them to be better. Paid 1595.00 for it.

I like my SIG commando a lot, different 'fell' than my other ARs-at least cleaner because of the piston set up rather than the gas . All in all the fit is solid, fires well, accurate, the flip up sights OK but rather puny, chews all ammo, fixed an Eotech -works very well..opted for this model as the other ones looked cool and ready for the 'mall ninja" look...this one just looks 'cleaner".

I've never had an AR, but I have a 556 and its pretty cool, eats all the cheap ammo I can put in it, easy to clean,(you think it got dirty for some reason), pretty accurate too
