Nor Cal Vs. Washington State

So Hunting, Camping, wheeling and Living whats my best bet? Im a Ca native been here all my life but, my fiances parents have been telling us about how cheap property is up in Wa. and I know theres plenty of all the stuff I love up there. What do you guys think? Also I have some property in the family that I hunt on so I'll be back for atleast part of the season every year but, Im assuming washingtons Deer season is longer than ours just cause im pretty sure we have the most restrictions of well any where that actually allows you to own guns.

It really depends on your financial situation and the areas you are considering. In general, I have found there is a direct relationship between property values and availability of work. You will find alot of great property cheap if there is no industry nearby. So it really depends on what your expectations for work are.

Also look at the terrain and conditions through out the seasons. Most people love the lush green forests of Washington State. They are that way because of the plentifull rain. Do you like rain? The outdoor opportunities abound in both areas. So choose your favorite game species. Choose the weather conditions you will tollerate. Figure out how you will make a living and then let those factors help you decide.

I would follow the elk and steelhead personally

If California does not allow you to own guns, then I have a small problem. What the h#ll are you talking about? Also, if you are basing where you live on the availability of firearms, then Texas is the place for you.

How old are you and what is your occupation? I would look for a place you like that has work for you to do. One of my friends moved to Washington into a very nice practice situation, but he hates it because it rains something like 300 days per year. Bottom line, be careful what you wish for!

Anyway, my next move is to Nevada.

Cruiserdrew trust me i got problems to if we can't have guns "im pretty sure we have the most restrictions of well any where that actually allows you to own guns." by this i ment that california has the most strick and in my oppinion some what the most irresponsible hunting regulations (thats a whole nother issue) of any place that will actually allow you to own a firearm (meaning a tyranically run country where they rule by fear they would not allow hunting with guns cause then you wouldn't be as affarid of them because you are armed as well)
as far as age Im 24 and still in school and not planning on moving tell my Fiance and i graudate. She's in dental but, leaning towards orthodontics and im working towards being a welder fabricator. plus her dad is a mill write (not sure if thats the right write for that never seen it writ) for a large mill in washington and could get me a job making what if not more than im making right now up there so no cost of living cut, and i could use my certs to lever my way up the ladder when i get there.

I dunno i love blacktail and bears and im trying to find somewhere around here for pigs cause there tasty and xiting from what i hear. at the same time i also hear elk and muleys are more readly available up there and thats an itch i really wanna scratch and theres still blacktail to be had up there (i think been a while sence i looked at the range map) plus i think theres even some moose and cats so....
and as far as rain where theres rain theres mud and snow and thats been mosta my wheeling xperiance so far mud snow and trails so ...... i dunno i guess finish school and start looking closer and more seriously.

Hmmm--A millwright is an honorable profession. So is welder/fabricator. Where you live is always a balance of what you like, and what you can afford. I think I could be happy in Washington, especailly the Eastern part.

Northern California is still OK. The South state has gone beyond the limit in my opinion. There are simply too many people.

Oregon and Washington have too much rain, or are too cold. Both are great places to visit.

At 24, you are soon going to be done training, and will spend a long time doing, so choose carefully.

I know most of the Washington Mudders will disagree with me, but the eastern side of the state is great. I just moved back to the ID/WA border after 10 years in the Puget Sound - YES it was on purpose!

Western WA and the "right" side of the cascades are about as different as Kansas and Florida. I'm one of those that really didn't tolerate the rain well. If you don't have webbed feet, you'll probably feel the same way. Hunting and fishing is great on both sides, but different.

With your particular situation - welder/fabricator and your fiance in dentistry you really could live pretty much any place you want.

If you wanted specific info on the Moscow/Pullman area, just ask...

I bet WA or OR would be a tropical climate during the winter compared to what I'm used to.

With very few exceptions, notably in the case of landpimp's seniority waiver, misspelling is not well tolerated in Washington state, and grammatical errors will earn a refusal of service in businesses as diverse as gas stations, dinner restaurants, and many state offices. You are well advised to stay where you are.

Last night was the first rain in three months or more, and it amounted to less than three tenths of an inch.

It rains far less up here than it did at my house in Felton, CA (Santa Cruz county) where in the twenty years I was there the average rainfall was 70 inches a year with a peak of 125 inches in 1981 and a low of 45 inches one year. That was rain that fell straight down and hard all day and night for three day stretches.

I haven't seen rainfall to even begin to approach the rainfall I left in the seven plus years I've been in Washington. I hear it comes down pretty good up in Bellingham and over on the peninsula, but in general I'd say from personal experience that the rain in the northwest is a relative myth.

It sure gets foggy and overcast in Gig Harbor though, but I think most of the fog emits from the resident's ears.

I to0 live on the "Right" side of Washington, i would not move to the "coast" if i had too! So i guess i agree with freeamerica. I love eastern washington, even more i love the Wenatchee valley/ outlying areas, but i would move almost anywhere in eastern washington.

I guess it just depends on your personal preference, and the area you are thinking to move!

yeah i spell good when i wanna but, I usually don't worry to much about how correct my grammer, punctuation and spelling may or may not be when I'm fooling around on the interweb. Life is way to short to be serious all the time.

You gotta realize that washington is 2 different states. Western and eastern. Western Washington is a marine climate, get lots of rain and is heavily forested. The hunting pretty much sucks. eastern Wa is much like the mid west, 300 days of sunshine and 4 distinct seasons. The hunting is pretty good and there are hundreds of thousand of acres of public land to hunt. Eastern Wa is a sportsmans paradise and has very few dipshit liberals. No wonder I like it so much.

happy to see more imput to my dead inquire. yeah i think we would probly end up on the right side of the state if we move up there is a sunshine girl so i don't think the left would do us well.
chukardog ive seen pics of your home area and it looks beautiful. do they still allow hunters to take Cougers and if so are dogs prohibited?

the right side

Another vote for the "right side" of WA. I grew up in So. Cal and puget sound area and now live in wenatchee. This is the best so far. Mountains in the backyard, river in the frontyard, good climate!
