We drove into Buena Vista one day and counted over 30 deer in 3 blocks. These 4 bucks were in a yard. Check out the one in the back. Also saw a small herd of elk outside of town. 9 bulls in the herd.

We saw between 30-60 muleys every day, mostly does, though. My hunting partner saw a huge non-typical where we were hunting, so we chased him for 2 days, but didn't get a shot. All he could see was its head the first time and counted 8X12 with an approx 14" drop tine, between 32-36" wide. That's a smart animal right there.
Matt shot at (and missed) a large frame 4 pt, before taking a dandy 2X3.

Does that mean you get to hunt on the rez for free
I might have to go check my lineage.
Check out the prices on this site.

sorry i didn't put enough great in there.
that's the best picture i have ever seen of the Chief. iwas wondering how tall the chief was, cuz they have him a little shorter than the colonel. most all the pawnee and osage i have met have been bigndns - a lot bigger than most white men around here.
so when are you going to bring down some mulie steaks and have a cookout?

Ouch. $16K for the elk? Wow....I guess my cruisers take too much of my money, cuz I'll never pay that much.

Wah-she-hah was 6' 7" in his prime, which makes the Colonel one big bohunk, if the statue is correctly proportioned.

Was Wah-she-hah the Chief Baconrind?
And 6' 7" sounds about right. I would say even the short indian women around here are about 6' - 6' 2". the statue has the chief as being a little shorter than the colonel. i have personaly met the colonels grand daughter, and even in her youth she could not have been over 5' 6". even the biggest euro mutts around here are no bigger than me, and i am only 5 11.

$16k and if it scores over 375, they tack on an extra $3,000!
In contrast, a general non-resident elk tag will run $595 here.
If your like me, you dream about hunting in other states, but it never makes it into the budget.

Yes, Chief Bacon Rind had two Osage names, one was Wah-she-hah and the other translated to 'Star that Travels'. I guess they had to be tall enough to see over the prarie grass, eh?

ha - i guess so. thanks for letting me pick your brain, all of this is still new to me so i still think its cool.
and great job on the hunts, i mostly have only taken wild hogs, sqirrels, rabbits, turtles, coons, armos, and just a few deer.
you know i pick on the stuff smaller than me. i guess the Chief could say the same thing.

No problem! I'm greatful I know as much about my heritage as I do, still wish I knew more, though.
Thanks! I went hog hunting once, that was fun, but we didn't get any. The fall rains allowed the hogs to range farther from the perennial watering holes. I think back in the day, he probably ran down a few buffalos, he was that big.
Just noticed your avatar! NICE!!!!!! That's not something most people will ever see or even know about.

i have been using that avatar for a while now.
when people hear i am from skedee i get one of three responses.
70% where's skedee
15% do you noodle
15% is that where the statue is
so with my avatar i can answer two of those. ha
hog hunting in east texas was like killing cock roaches in the ghetto. by social law just living there requires you to kill as many as you can.
the most i can remember killing in one day was 13 (that's not a type-o) for a couple of years it was kinda just a gather a process thing. i'd make some calls to see who wanted a pig to roast for the week-end. then i'd go out and gather out of my traps and hang and skin enough to fill the orders, then take the remainder to a guy that paid a straight $20.00 per head. almost without fail the ones i would hang up and skin were under 100 lbs. most of the time under 75 lbs. and typically i would process only 5-7 in a day.
