fishin boat... well sort of..
So I put up an ad for my old KTM dirt bike and manage to find a guy taht wants to trade for this..
1971 Chrysler 15ish ft boat. runs perfectly, but apparently it has a leak somewhere in the bottom of the outboard (he thinks he did not seal it up properly when he put it back together) I wanted a boat to just go fishing in on small lakes (read Ponds) but this might be a bit of fun as well. Any comments? Anyone happen to know anything about the old Chrysler boats? __________________ I am kinda gay....... quick internet search..
This outboard runabout is 14 feet long and weighs 676 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 72 inches. The max horsepower for this boat on our records is 65 hp . If you choose to buy a replacement engine for your Chrysler Charger 118 boat, it is recommended by many, that you verify the max horsepower for your boat. This is because of safety reasons - as it would effect the insurability of your outboard boat. __________________ I am kinda gay....... The golden rule of used boats; the motor is the expensive part.
I bet you'd have to dump $600 on that thing the second it hits your hitch ball... this is $600 new.... bassproshop Last edited by beaufort-fj60; 06-25-07 at 05:45 AM. |

That is a clean looking older boat, but if it were me, I'd keep looking. If your primary goal is for fishing, I'd be looking for something with a little shallower draft that you could mount a trolling motor on.
X2 on the motor being the expensive part. Do you have the "boat trader" publication in Vegas? __________________ '69 fj40 CSC#103 A dry heat still cooks a turkey |

I never really liked runabouts for fishing. You're not able to fish the bow, and they have too much freeboard. If you hook a big fish, and it runs up to the front of the boat, you're going to be in a bind. The big windshield is going to be in your way as well. It would be a nice cruising boat.

I know that is one seriously wacked John Deer/sky blue combo.
![]() I'd pass on it. The motor is definately the most expensive part of the boat, and as mentioned, your primary purpose is fishing. That'd be fun, but you're not gonna like casting out of it. It's a touch much for a 'pond' per say. When I hear 'pond' I think john boat and electric trolling motor.

Not to mention the Chrysler outboard. Chrysler, which became Force, which became US Marine (bayliner), which became Mercury Marine, which is owned by Brunswick corp....yea anyway, they weren't the best of motors then, and now....what are being built by Merc under the Force nameplate, are very old school technology, no R&D, and parts availability is very minimal. Wayyyyy worse than a Cruiser even.

I think my father had the same boat, but he bought it new and sold it when I was born. He is no longer around to comment on it. :(

I passed on it.
Still need to find a reasonable aluminum boat. And the flat bottomed ones are nice and lite.. But I would prefer a V hull __________________ I am kinda gay....... I think you made the right decision in passing on it. I'm kinda surprised you're having a problem finding something. Jon boats are a dime a dozen around here.

Well, I finally found a boat. 12' AL flat bottomed but V front end (hybrid I guess) Fully welded, no rivets and does not leak a drop.
Maker, Vio Holda out of Topeka, Kansas ..Got it for $150. Course, now I need a motor bigger than my 1.5HP canoe motor ![]() Looks to be the runabout __________________ I am kinda gay.......
