So no input on where to go!? Tom? Tony? Bill? Dan? Todd? Clint? Ron?....and whoever else wants to come?

I know some of you guys dont want to drive 1000mi+ one way.....so tuck up string and speak up. Any other options/opinions?

I personally dont care where we go or what we do. We can spend a week in a hotel parking lot, or go to the Rubicon. Im game for whatever.

As soon as I sell the rockers and get some radial tires ill be wanting to drive all over the country.

I won't have a tow rig so I'll be towing with an FJC or a 45LV or maybe a Honda Valkyrie.

I'm up for N. Dakota, or Texas/OK or whatever.

Just to let you know

Today as I was "dropping the kids off at the pool" I was flipping through the feible magazine that I get for my useless TLCA membership. And there was an add in the back for the BHCC and there are some fees (like 145$ etc..). It includes some stuff and is likely not really an extra cost, but just something to think about.

BTW I hope this event doesnt make me renew my TLCA membership.

2009 website sez -

open to all TLCA and non-TLCA members this year

and

$145 included 4 nights of camping, 3 days of wheeling and dinner (and dash plaque)

compare that Chicago Toyota Jambo - $50-60 wheeling + $30 camping and dinner if it was for the same time period.

so some extra cost.

Is there a Wal-Mart nearby?

I like the Black Hills idea with or without the BHCC.

I know for certain Hondo John has hit the BHCC. He absolutely raves about it. Well worth the drive from what he tells me.

I'm down for the BHCC. I have no input on where we go really....I just wanna go for the great times wit my friends & wheelin will just be a big bonus.
$$$$ is always a factor with me , but I already have the PYS Tour fund started.

Making multiple road trips, wheeling multiple parks, partying in multiple hotel parking lots, shopping @ multiple Wal-Marts sounds like a great time...

A big road trip, wheeling one park, partying in one hotel parking lot & shopping @ one Wal-mart is ok too.....So long as it's a cool place...I could spend a week @ Flat nasty.

This whole gig is gonna be great fun for me from beginning to end...I'm easy, so no, I don't really have any input.

However, if we all need to give some input...I will come up with something for my vote...

I too question if the money and restrictions of a formal event are in our best intrests. They may have a strong fire code that is enforced in their campground.

Input? I kinda echo Tony....I am coo wit whutevr!!
I'm pretty easy to please....just don't try to sell me a shitty over price laser!!

I would be up for an organized event or just doing our own thing. It was fun to have the freedom of doing what ever we wanted on no time schedule.
The Black Hills are gorgeous but my wheeling experience outside of Indiana, NC and MO is ziltch, I mean nil. So I hate to recomend some trails I've never been on if some one else has experience on the trails. If we entertain the idea of going some place that none of us have been, like we did with MO, that would be cool too.
How's that for some "gray" input.

Ok, so then if we do the Black Hills. I agree I dont really need to to be part of an event. In fact I would rather not. I dont need the raffles, bbq's, etc... Part of the fun of last year was the freedom. Im all for organized events but that really IS NOT in the spirit of the walmart tour. Flat Nasty in perticular was AMAZING. I too could spend a week in that vally where we camped!!!

So then we arent tied to the BHCC event its self. So we can head out there whenever. Im sure we can find our way around, or a couple locals can come out and give us some pointers (like Thad @ SMORR).

So should we schedule our week so part of our week is during the BHCC, or should we avoid it all together, and not risk being roped into it with out choice, like chicks n the sticks ?

I say if we are kinda half assed on an organized event, skip it all together. Then we have no time frame and can most likely enjoy the same trails. This way we pick a week that works for all of us and not based on somebody else.
AND......ziltch + large groups (big organized event) is not a good mixture. I need to be able to hear my ziltch!!

I've already got my date for the tour, she says it'll be a lot of fun! Now, we just need to schedule it...

Yup I got wasted as I could while still being functional and paid (flushed) $30, cause I had to, to sign up for GSMTR, which got canceled a week later. Thats what I get for denying my gut urge to procrastinate.

I like the idea of not being part of the event for the freedom of choice on what to do and where to go. I do have a contact that lives in Huron S. Dakota that we met and wheeled with at the Get Flat Nasty w/TAC event in '08. When we have a week picked out I can give him a call and see if he would be interested in being a guide for us or if he would have any suggested places to go. That is if this becomes our destination.

OK, just to summerize here, it seems that who have posted are leaning more toward a stand alone event, nothing against any event or group just we seem to want the freedom to take the week as it comes.

As to the choice of where I don't care. Anywhere we go I will be wheeling with friends and taking each day as it comes. Although I must admit that a trip to Colorado or the like may be too pricey, but I can't say that for sure without more details and research. Plus next summer is a long way off and I may hit the lottery by then and pay everyones way.

The only date I have seen is the week in July, this is fine as far as I know for me. Any other dates any one wants to through out there for consideration?

We still havent heard from our commander, although all he seems to need is a lawn chair beside a fire somewhere and he is set.

Mark

Wrong. He thoroughly enjoys Ron's 80 as well. ("I swear, those dents were there before I drove it! I'll help you fix them though!"

Wow, that tree has a slight PPG green tint to it )

As far as dates are concerned......to avoid the heat, would we be better off in June than July?
If that is the case I am going to throw out a date......week of 06/21 (monday). That would mean to hit the road saturday 06/19.

I vote for June to avoid the heat. As far as where we go, I am hearing two major themes: Several people who have been there say they could spend a week at Flat Nasty. The other most talked about is the Black Hills. To me it doesn't matter where we go because both are on my must do list before I get too old to wheel any more. The advantage of Flat Nasty is the drive. It will be 17+ hours to the Black Hills and that may be tough for some who are driving their wheeling rigs as opposed to towing them. On the other hand, being a Harley guy and all, Sturgis is real close by and that would make an interesting side trip. We might even have enough trailers to haul some bikes and do some riding while there as well. Just a thought.

I have no problem with Flat Nasty for a week. I think I'd want to rent the cabin for a couple of nights for showarage and AC. I like the option of bailing out to Rolla if the weather turns real nasty.

OTOH I have never been to the Black Hills and would like to see new things especially after the announcement of permanent closing of GSMTR. I never went and now I can't.

Flat Nasty is definately a good option and very agreeable with me. June and July are both usually hot and sticky in Mo. and Southern IL.

While researching Redbird this morning before I head out to the trails, I found a nice link with some fairly close areas that I hadn't heard of before Muddy Buddys Jeep Wrangler Club - OFF ROAD TRAIL MAPS AND DIRECTIONS I have been to Slade and Harlan, though Harlan looks like it has improved a lot.

That Harlan website is awesome. I agree...much improved. 7000 acres is a lot of wheeling room.

I'm groovin on the idea of a day to get to Washita, a day or two there. Then a day travel to Flat Nasty and 4-5 days there. Then an easy two days back.

Anything in Kentucky and Tennesee would be cool as we have not been there yet.

I like the idea of Washita in addition to Flat Nasty but was thinking of having it on the latter end of the week as it would make the trip home a little shorter for you long haulers.

We discussed Washita breifly over dinner and we did not cover any of their hard trails through the center part of the park which would leave us the better part of one day to cover those. I don't see it being more than two days to cover the moderate and hard trails.

Todd and I talked about saturday night at washita, and then leaving washita Tues, head to flat nasty and stay there til sat or sun. We like the idea of a layed back week. Hit the trails whenever we feel like it, travel slowly, etc...

Im all for KY area wheeling.
