my lowers are 2" .500" wall chrome-moly and are 53" long with 102" wheelbase, full figured fj40.. i havent bent then yet... the only thing i have problems with is vertical ledges getting over the top... the rigs on the links and front tires, if there isnt enough traction to pull the rig up the links so the rear tires bite i get denied... other than that they have been great...

as far as your upper link gusset goes, id look at doing a flat steel plate inside the "U" and add speed holes... that should keep it from deflecting side to side...

You hit the nail on the head...that is exactly how I am doing it...I am gonna add a few pieces of tubing to give it a little eye candy as well

Oh...BTW just returned home from Harlan,KY (PBB 2nd annual camp and crawl) I had a good time other than seeing my buddy go backwards down creampuff at speed with no breaks and a shattered t-case....and then he nearly ran over his dad(actually he did run him over but the truck just happened to clear him

What ya know about that?
I got some new tubing for my rear lower links...MAN SIZE!
This isn't just any tube though...It was 2" solid that was BORED out!
2" x 0.50" wall!




here is my other tubing for the front links 1 3/4"x 3/8" wall

I have started designing my front suspension. I have to take my rear lower links to the guy to get them threaded. I need to get some tubing so I can finish the rear up.


I have been considering using a 4.3 Vortec(late model) and a beef'd 700r4 into clocked dual t-cases. What y'all think?



Here are my reasons
1. The 4.3 is a durable engine.
2. The parts are readily available at most any parts house.
3. The parts are cheaper
4. Hop-up parts are cheaper
5. The 700R can be built to withstand some serious power
6. Automatic would help in the rocks
7. R151F's are hard to come by and expensive when you do

Disadvantages

1. I won't be "all toyota" like I wanted to
2. I'll be a "toylet"
3. 3.4L->R151F->23spline case->23spline 4.7= sick

the 4.3 is a nice engine .. nothing compared to 1FZ-FE but doing well but maybe you are more concernet about the weight and dimensions ..

And certanly for manual tranny you must need more crawl ratio, so you don't have the torque converter to help ..

BIG UPDATE:
I got my tires!(5) 42x15x16.5 TSL's(thanks interco!) I am trying to scrape some $$$ together for my wheel centers(6-lug for the H1's)

Last week I got a kickin' deal on a R151F with T-case...so it came home with me(oh BTW: FRESHLY REBUILT!) T-case isn't picured

I stopped by Bud's( www.Budbuilt.com ), I told him what I got, then I got this from him

I also got a donation to my project...I got a free Co2 tank! I sold my york210 to a buddy, and now I've gotta buy a regulator.
I've got my bender now but I couldn't do complex bends with rotation...I can now. I took some initative and built the tool to lock on the tube so I can measure the degrees I have rotated.


Tonight I finally burned in the rear lower link mounts...wasn't too bad. They are PERFECTLY ALIGNED!



SMOKIN'

I have been contemplating installing a 1.5" body lift onto my rig. Mainly because of the MC08 R10 and wanting a flat belly. I cut down 3" body pucks...they ended up being 1 3/8" after leveling them up. I still don't know if I want to do this or not though.
But here are some teaser pics for ya!





As for the engine...1UZ-FE ...here I come

I went and got some tube today...I decided to ditch going wheeling with some friends so i can stay here and finish the bed cage this weekend

Tonight, me and a buddy(the guy in the pic above with the hammer) bent the 2 rear frame rails! I like the lines of them, I'll post pics tomorrow, after I get the main cab hoop and the upper rail on

OK,OK! Here are the 2 rails...I can't bend the cab hoop or the upper bed hoop...The piece of tubing isn't long enough to do either!

I am running a r151F(4.31) into a 23spline(2.28) into a 23 spline(4.7) into 4.10s(unless I can find a good deal on some 4.88's)

4.31x 2.28x4.7x4.10=232:1....low gearing? Stock FJ axles...ha, I think not 30spline Longfield Birfilelds and shafts and as soon as polyperformance drops the FF FJ-80 rears I'll have them too.

The R151 will help with the on the road driving....It has a good power range....and I'll have enough power with a 3.4(I just can't seem to find a 1UZ-FE locally)
Still making progress! I got the 1.5" body lift on(I know it isn't that much work)




Here you can see how well the main hoop follows the cab lines
