If that was my rig, Psssh I wont even go there. To each his own. I'm expecting a fully caged Coiled over 4-linked front and rear custom everything on 46"tires, crawler, gears, and more. I only hope that picture is 8months old, or that that's not your rig. Talk about parking your money...literally. It's been said and I'll say it again, you are a patient man.

Went to Portal tech's web site and they list a utah phone number
Portal-Tek L.L.C.
801-589-2028

no address. is listed and no one ever answers the phone

the phone book has them as unlisted so you cant get an address.

So I go to the Utah dept of Corporations and it shows that Portal Tech is delinquent (2 years) in re-registering their business with the State. the state is now the registered agent.

If anyone has a physcial address for them I would love to go by and have a look at the 'project'

Just located this thread and read the whole thing, damn what an animal this 80 will be! I agree with everyone here man, when they say you have a lot of patience! Here's hoping you get some progress soon and we can see a 6BT powered 80 rolling on portals. Kudo's to you for having the balls to start this build-up!

It would seem like a call to Portal tech is in order. Looks like wheels off an old 40 have opted for newer cruiser.

So I drove past the Portal Tek during lunch and the 80 is in the shop under a cover saw the back end and the white steel spoke wheels. It seems that someone gave them a heads up. They were actively working on a tube buggy and there were a number of FJ40s in the lot but I did not see the missing bead locked 37s.

I have to ask, what is it that justifies portal tek having the rig for over a year without seemingly doing any work on it? As a customer in that situation I would be fit to be tied. As a business owner I cant imagine taking money from a customer and not delivering for over a year.

So the big Question is: "What information are we missing?"

Any update on this thread?

As a former ID/UT resident, I usually like to think of southeast Idaho/Utah as above usual standards when it comes to honesty. Good western mountain folk, I likes to think. Yet when I see this, it hurts.

When some people are are given money and no oversight/prompting/motivation..... they just take the money, and do nothing. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. No squeaky = no grease/attention. This is made much more difficult by your not being in town: they may feel they can act without fear.

Why does this business use an unlisted number? In order to grow, a business must advertise. Doing the opposite implies the opposite: that they're trying to hide from customers. The state business listing doesn't count, those are public records. The fact that the business registry listed phone number is ignored only reinforces this.

Unfortunately, this means I'll never buy from Portaltek, as I don't live in their town and can't harass them to get my work done.
And what do I tell people when they ask where to get portal axles and such?

Without meaningful resolution, and without Portaltek chiming in with their side of the story, this whole situation makes portaltek look very bad.

-Dan

No updates since last month, called and left messages, nothing.. my paitence has run out, but now, I have no time or gas money to go up there. My project has been put on hold for so long, that funds have went to other places, kids, new bills and such....
...
Although, I have noticed they have revamped thier website. as of June 17th. Lots of new and wonderfull projects going on, and some old. but nothing on mine.

Well, time to go, too buzy with lifes other demands right at the moment to worry about a truck thats not going anywhere at the moment.

Hopefully something happens soon, If not, Ill be pulling the plug in the next few months, make some time and go get my junk, and get some axles from somewhere else.

If you dont want your truck i'll go pick it up and take it not to mention punch everyone within range of that place in the balls!!

At this point even if you really start doing some shit you are probably in for a long wait getting any work or your money back,i would flip the fuck out by now

I think that sweet stuff you see in the gallery of there site was built with your money.

The rims are also for sale. Check out other items by the seller. Only home phone number is listed and not the business number.

wow i guess i dont get on world wide mud often enough. there is all kinds of conspiracy theories going on here. We sold ronnies kidneys and are blowing all his cash on strippers and beer. oh wait, thats not near as cool as we took his cash and bailed and left him for dead in a mexican brothel. its pretty uneventful to just say that we are working on his truck as fast as we can get to it without shutting down axle production at this point so everybody can keep throwing out their worst case scenarios and the winner gets a $1000 gift certificate.

Its kinda creepy to see pics of my shop (and often home) show up on the internet. so i need to set some ground rules. classicruisergirl- we have a lot of tweekers wondering through our yard trying to steal stereos and gas. It would be way easier for you to come to the front door and i will give you a nickel tour of our little understaffed operation than have you wandering around the back yard. I have come out that door more than once with a 45 trying to catch the ass who has been stealing gas from my tanks. I would feel bad if i freaked out on you so maybe come to the front door next time before you go wandering around the yard k! plus there are way better pics to be had inside the shop than all my garbage in the back. Red rover is for sale somebody buy the turd! tan 40 is mine. it sits in the yard. customer trucks go inside. ronnies wheels came off and went inside while we are building the cage and chassis inside as well. I apologize for not having a 6k sq ft shop so we had to keep the shell of ronnies truck outside til we freed some space to do the body swap. It did not seem a good idea to leave his 5k worth of tires and wheels without locks out there so we put it on the pizza cutters. Yes all the stuff on KSL is ronnies. we are selling it so he can put it towards the rest of the build. so but it up so we have the space and ronnie has the cash to finish this beast.

seriously. anybody who wants a tour come on down. i am there from 8am to 10pm every day. I only sleep there 3 or 4 nights a week though when im too tired to drive home. i run down parts and crap sometimes during the day but allie is in the front office tues to thursday. and jim our operations manager is there almost as much as me. Russ is offsite for most of the day but has his phone with him always.

we dont have a shop phone because we use our cell phones. we dont push listed numbers because we just started our production run last month. without VOIP (north salt lake sucks) its more efficient to use the cells. ALL our beta test customers have mine and russ's cell numbers for a reason. We have a relationship/ friendship with each of them. Obviously that cant go on forever but until we have a few more sales people to handle the amount of interest on our gen 3 stuff we do not have the minutes per month to widestream market. all in due time.

I am a very good fabricator. I AM NOT A FAST FABRICATOR. But i guess if everybody was pitching out a product with as much engineering and testing into it that our axles have then we would not have patient friends like ronnie who would be willing to wait for months/years/decades to put together trucks for them.

I know this isn't as interesting as some of the more colorful theories thrown out here but its my mundane, daily life. and to all the internet slueths with the personal info searches. find out what happened to Crystal Mueller for me. i always wondered what happened to her after high school. she was hot!

it will probably be another 20 years before i check this forum again so just drop by the shop OK! front door classic girl. bring treats

I can't say I have an opinion... I would rather see the finished product a year of hard wheeling after it is done and then make my judgement.
