I like it, I have always wanted to put a BMW s54 motor out of a M3 in my Taco, 333hp and 333 lb/ft would do me just fine. I think having an SMG tranny would be pretty sick too, with yota dual t-cases of course.

So i did some searching: Couldn't find an exact torque maximum for the G 52 / 54 but i DID find adapter plates to put V8s in front of them.
But all for not, i've found a V6 tranny that i'll use. ^@#^$(** now i need to get ANOTHER adapter plate ( V6 - 4 Cyl T case - LC t case) sheesh so seriously. anyone need: -4 speed LC tranny -2 - 4 cyl mini trannies -1 V6 T case? |

Buy the adapter from inchworm. I've run two marlin adapters, and I *think* Jim's adapter has a better seal at the splines to help thwart the issue of tranny fluid flowing into the tcases.... but not flowing back. Bad juju. I know Marlin's can be fixed w/ some good sealant, but Jim's may have the issue resolved from the factory. __________________ Brian K. Gallus |

progress
Slow as i expected, but i didn't expect to be held up by an unnamed adapter plate manufacturer that takes 3 weeks to actually acknowlege the order that was placed, before considering delivering it. . .
Anyways, the wackyness of this project continues. adapting a: Audi V6 to Toyota 151F to Toyota Top shift 4cyl tcase to Toyota H42 Transfercase to BJ 62 driveline to BJ / FJ 60 axles. Sounds like fun huh? with all this installed, i guestimate that the driveline will push the motor 10 inches forward, keep the 4 shifers in a reasonable location, and allow me to continue running my current driveshafts. More CAD work to go today.

As in Have i ever driven it with the 4 link setup? yes, i drove it last year to and from the trails, wheeled the hell out of it, and drove home.
My Marling stuff just arrived yesterday (and some parts were mis-shipped ![]() ) so i'll start my 4 stick setup once i get the right stuff in.Progress: i took apart the V6 tranny this weekend: all looks good. Once the right stuff arrives, then i'll put together the driveline. THey also sent me a 10 degree clocking plate, so i guess, it get some more clearance whether i like it or not. Re-located one of my air-shock perches lower down to lose some lift. i figure i took about 3 inches out of the front. Problem was that i had only 5" of up stroke set on the shock, and then 13" of down stroke! now it should be more balanced, with a slightly more reasonable looking stance. Old pic. I've re-located the shock bracket in the lower control arm bracket and boxed and gusseted up the whole works. ![]() an example of how the front sat too high: ![]() and when it unloads, there's lots of down stroke. ![]() with decent up-stroke (rear stuffed to the max, front almost there)

Just waiting for the rest of the Marlin stuff to arrive. the drive line will be about 13" longer than stock cruiser drive line would have been. It's going to leave me about 9 inches batween the firewall and the back of the motor. Flex is about 39" between the tire heights at full twist. It's a bit weird to drive when on the street right now as i don't have sway bars. I was looking at Sway Loks with their dual rate option. anyone else running those? i haven't seen ORO have them on sale lately. More old pics. This is the entire reason that i wanted FI. local terrain does not cooperate with a carb. ![]()

tell me about it. I've ben pinching my pennies to get a cage soon. Metaltech is the prefered choice so far, but with the additional exo work and frame tie ins that i'm planning, there's still much more research to go. Time is quickly becoming an enemy, i have to get it on the road by May long weekend. (first trail run).

Well, it's been a few weeks since my last post, but i've been busy in the shop.
Finally got all the Marlin stuff together to go dual cases, and here's the look of it now. ![]() Works like this: 93- V6 tranny to 4 cyl crawl box, to LC T case. ![]() Upgraded to the 23 spline input (no choice) and added Poser's t-case brace. i'll have to fab up a cross member for tranny support. Converted my fan shroud to electric fan, 1600 CFM X 16" with an adjustable thermoswitch. This label on the side makes me nervous. . . . ![]() ![]() FINALLY got my adapter plates in today. milled down to 1/2" each, nicely profile burnt and tapped. Erick of Wayland Machining is working diligently on the centering dowels and a new flywheel center ( to keep a Toyota clutch). Center of the flywheel has been bored out, and a new 4140 center pressed in. It's off for tig right now, then it will be final centered and drilled. ![]() ![]() Also have the wiring harness undercontrol too, there's maybe. . . 90 wires from the ECU that detect things. THe one thing that i did figure out is that there's lots of fail safes if one sensor goes on the fritz. (i.e. i don't REALLY NEEEED a MAF, but i SHOULD have one.) ![]() Plates get final touchups tomorrow, then i'll test fit the motor to the plates and the trannys - but without the flywheel and any mechanical connection to the input shaft. ![]()

Love the flex in the airshox, but the roll control issue is a bit unnerving. I've just ordered 2 Currie Anti-rocks. front gets the 35.75 and the rear gets the 45". The playing around with Nitorgen rates may also become a bit of a hassle until it get it fine tuned. No one on these boards seems to really have any baseline suggestions with where to start.

I Think That Is Because Very Few People Are Running Those. I Saw A Buggy In The Badlands Running Them And He Liked Them. I Would Talk To Some One At The Badlands Like One Of Troy's Tech Guys They Might Be Able To Give You A Good Baseline For Those Shocks.

Engine and adapters mate together with a little help from my buddy: Mr. 4.5" cut wheel.
My Heep buddies call the dual case setup a "penis extension". wonder where they get that from. Probably envy as i havne't seen many dual case NP231s out ther yet. Rough location of the motor in the bay with the tranny attached. ![]() ![]() With my Caution radiator installed roughly: ![]() ![]() Pressing on and on. THis truck has to be done by May 18th, I've already booked an exhaust appointment! |

very nice build BTW. i definately dig the Audi powerplant mated to the dual cases. i have friends that run the air shocks and, from what i've seen, i like them alot. that's why i'm gonna run them on my cruiser also.

![]() I love the flex from the air shox, but the un-nerving Gangsta-lean that doesn't self center after a corner is a bit difficult to stomach. Thus, i've ordered a set of Currie Anti-rocks. I drove the truck all last year without a sway bars, but i think i'll enjoy having them in. My adapter plates for the engine were supposed to be tapped in Metric coarse thread, but they were tapped in M12 X 1.5, which, as i've discovered recently, is extremely difficult to find in sizes that i need. I've had to find a specialty metric store, that had the sizes, and in grade 12.9! (shieat yeah!). The flywheel has been dropped off at OTT for Tig welding as i've had a new center plug made for it to change the bolt circle. I should have that tonight or tomorrow, then it's back to Erick for final turning, bolt hole drilling and then mating to the new centering dowel. I should get the driveline final installed to the motor on Friday or Saturday, then it's engine mounts, transfercase mounts, plumbing, fuel system, cooling, wiring, exhaust, fenders, etc. And it has to be on the road in 8 days. Perhaps i've seen too many of those build shows. |

So this continues not to be a download friendly post. . .
OK, so now the engine is in, using a V6 flywheel, and custom adapter to the flexplate and thus the crank. Drive line is attached now and a custom transfercase adapter is attaching the frame at the 4 cyl crawl box point. This allows me to continue to use my existing shafts.
Saturday got the engine in and mounts done. Sunday was wiring beginning and fuel sytem progress. Today was ECU mounting, harness clean up and beginning of coolant line runs. Figure i'll hit the wrecker on Wednesday and get some additional hoses and expansion tank for cooling system. I still hope to make my exhaust apointment Thursday. Talk about agressive time line! She's off the life support now. . . The hoist is packed away now! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great build up. I was a little leary of it at first, but nothing a little really nice fab work didn't cure.

Updates. . . .
well. . . Last Friday night i packed it up with all my camping gear and it evenutally managed to fire. Took a helluva lot of tinkering. It came late Friday evening that the ignition switch kills all the electrical except the starter (due to being a carbed truck previously) which also convieniently was killing the fuel pump and all the rest of the brain which makes it kinda hard to start. My temporary exhaust didn't survive too well. . .
