my lower back finally felt good enought to do some "light duty" work so on saturday i decided to clean up the garage, get the bead blaster put together and hooked up (it's about time, i've had it for 3 years) and do some engine "dress up" stuff.
i wanted to run part of the stock fuel lines, so i trimmed off the ends and flared them for some rubber line to connect them to the tank. i'll have to bend them some behind the engine to point them towards the passenger side, but they should work out perfect:

next i started to mount my york compressor. i bought a bracket from kilby enterprises www.onboardair.com that allows you to moun the york in the stock aluminum bracket for the round style gm compressor. fits perfect!

the only minor problem with the york so far is that it ends up "intercepting" the stock engione oil dip stick.

i pulled off the dip stick tube, grabbed the tubing bender and it works again. if you bend the tube at too much of an angle, the dip stick will bind up.

i also installed the studs for the exhaust manifolds as can be seen in the pic above, but first i ran a "thread chaser" (similar to a tap) thru every exhaust post bolt hole just to make sure i was'nt going to have any problems with a bad or plugged thread. also, it's important to remove any excess paint from the exhaust manifold mounting surface otherwise you end up with leaks, so i did that right before installing the bolts.

here's a pic of a thread chaser:

the only other thing i got done before cleaning up my tools and calling it a night was to knock all the studs out of the front spindles/rotors.

I like that bracket for the OBA setup...tho I've used the stock Harrison pancake for years with no problems

are you running serps, and how does their kit deal with that?? How is the height of the compressor relative to the hood?

today, sunday, i wanted to prepp everything for the front end so when i get the housing back from my buddy rodney, i'll be ready to go on with the assmebly of the "outers". rodney is setting up the 4:56 gears and power lock limited slip for me over the weekend. since i've only done a handful of differential gear setups and he has done literally hundrets, i figured i'd call in a favor and have him do it for me.
i finally got to use the bead blaster and it works awesome. problem is, the air compressor has a reallly hard time keeping up. i'll just live with it since i don't do that much beadblasting. a new compressor would take away some of the "pocket money' i have set aside for this project so it's gonna have to wait.
i got all the parts cleaned up, bearings and races knocked put, grease wiped out, threads chased, blasted and painted. i also wire wheeled the wheel studs and cleaned up the threads on them. last thing i want is to run into a bad thread or other preventable trouble during assembly.
that took pretty much all day, including cleaning up the mess i made.
here's an after pic:

i'm going to order a serpentine pulley from kilby for the york. i'll be able to run a single belt and the compressor lines up perfect. i had to lay it down or it would have hit the hood, but now it should be cool.

this is the model i have. probably overkill for what i need, but i guess overkill should be my middle name:
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog
only problem i'm having is that the compressor can't keep up with it, so i have to wait for it to charge back up. and let it cool down from time to time. don't wanna kill it too soon.

Georg,

Thanks for the info. I would like something that nice but will probably end up with the Harbor Frieght Special of the month..So I could afford a nicer compressor...

got home tonite and found a package from AA on my porch; the new 27 spline atlas input gear. after dinner with my wife, i snuck off to the garage and pulled the atlas back out of the cruiser, installed the new input gear for the th700 and did the prelim mock-up of the atlas shifters. here's a pic during mid-assembly of the atlas.

Well i was playin in moab to much and missed a bunch :(

89 or earlier dodge d60 cut 4" like 63 to 63.5" wms
Which last time i was playin with measurements i believe would still land you
on stock springs?

DID you cut and turn the other side while you had the one off???? sorry if i could not
catch it earlier. Dodge runs the least amount of caster in all their d60s. Stock is 2 degrees!!!

We run a 4runner on 40's or 44's with 2 degrees and it does 55mph without problems and actually steers better then any of my cruisers.

long front driveshaft will probably be ok, with the low pinion angle.

pre 89 housing still should have a 16" short axle? and they are neckdown inners? I seem to only play with chevy or a few late dodge housings.

having a hard time finding 35 spline flanges or lockouts?? let me know i will see if a guy is still making them.
