Buggy cruiser = Bugger

I am a recovering Jeepaholic, but eventually found salvation and redemption again in the LC realm So please go easy on me! I had a couple of cruisers in the past (called Bandeirante in Brazil), a 70's diesel, and my family still had one of the FJ40 last cruisers made in Brazil until a bout three years ago, a 2000 (yeah yeah, it had square headlights ).

I recently got into a TLC buggy project which has a lot of work already cut out for me, Firebird 400 engine, 465, 205 and 60 HD front, and 70 rear axles. As I can not leave a good thing alone, I am making the LC " mine" and started a list of mods and updates which I will posting on thsi thread. I appreciate everyone's comments and ideas, and go easy on me as the Jeep bug bit me hard, so I am still in recovery mode

So to get started, I need some inspiration on a 4 seater "conversion" for the FJ buggy It is a a 2 seater with slight room in the back for a car seat (over the gas tank...hmmm yep...) but would like to add passenger space on the rear of the cruiser, so it could become a family wheeler of sorts

I am playing with a couple of design ideas, and even contemplating a "removable" rear section that could be installed and pretty much bolted\clamped\tubed on for family outings. The removable option would only be used on milder trails, but would still have safety and security of passengers in any event.

Here is a pic of the cruiser as is:

and a crappy photoshop redemption of the 4 seater approach. Most likely run with a rear bench of sorts

I appreciate your ideas, input and pics of FJ 4 seater buggies for inspiration!

Thanks!

Gui

Man your cruiser looks sick!!!!!! I can understand wanting some more passenger room, especially with kids and family. What you did in photo shop looks good, but would be a lot of work. Personally I wouldn't be able to resist playing with that thing! Fabrication is fun and being creative is cool, it always ends up being more work than anticipated.

No criticism from me just my thoughts. I would suggest if you were to build it up as a 4 seater that you drop that spare tire lower. It looks good, but no reason to keep the weight of it high if your going to rework the cage. It's just a thought, keep all the weight as low as possible.

I'd like to see more pic's of your cruiser as it is.

Also the stock fj-40 land cruiser gas tank is right under the passenger seat, if you weren't aware.

so if you do stretch the cage back and are able to get 2 more seats in there are you gonna leave the wheelbase the same? if so where ya gonna move that fuel cell to? back behind the axle but still in caged area?
