'94 FZJ80-6.5TD-700R4-2.7 KluneV-H2FAV?
Anybody have an opinion on this proposed swap?
Been rattling this around in my head for a few weeks and can't really see a downside other than making sure the 19 spline adapter (split case) on the Klune can be modified to work with the H2FAV case.
First a little background, 94 80 with a 6.5 V8 Turbo Diesel swap that is currently mated to an A442F using the Marks flywheel adapter. Haven't been able to get the tranny to see the correct signals to shift since I'm running a manual IP and with no electronic controls...then at GSMTR while doing some forrest service roads, the tranny overheated and puked out the front seal. No bigger, was planning on going with a built 700R4 and using the Marks adapter to mate it to the x-fer case.
But since the adapter is $1200, I started thinking maybe there might be a better way to skin a cat, and began thinking of the Klune. Why spend that when I can spend about 650 more and get a 2.7 underdrive.
The Klune will fit since its 6.5" + 1" adapter is ~1.6" shorter than the Marks adapter (9.12") which leaves the case in the stock location...I'll just have to move it forward and fab up a x-member...In my reading the difference between split case and the 80 case is simply the length of the input shaft coming off the tranny with the split case using the longer of the two shafts. The bolt pattern is the same...I should be able to have the input shaft cut to length...right?
Alright, now tell me where I fawked up in my brilliance!

nothing tech to add .. just interesting see how the 6.5T perform in a 80 .. ( turbo diesel sick here .. ) not my favorite engine but it looks interesting ..
And just to clarify .. there no a AA adapter from the 700R4 to the toy t-case .. ? ( BF1A or you wanna keep it full time ? )

Yep, there are a 1001 ways this could progress, and who knows I might get to the tons and 42s at some point...on my 40, but I try to sorta stick with Toyota stuff...to a degree...I don't feel like f'ing with the rear axle at this point and while a 4 sp Atlas would be nice...its overkill for this rig...I've never really wanted anything lower than my H41/Orion in my 40 and that includes Katemcy and Moab...
I'm building this to be a moderate expedition wheeler that I can either drive to events or possibly even tow my 40 if it works out..To be honest I'll probably not use the Klune all that much in conjunction with the case, probably more of a standalone 2.7 with the case in high... I've also considered dropping the 80 case and going to a split case and adding going to part time...
I'm extremly please with the power of the 6.5, and with 35s and the OD working I'll be cruising at ~2K on the tach.
So...can anyone confirm my points on the differences between the split case and HF2A?

Al,
Were you thinking of keeping the stock 80 case or going with the split?

Split so I could run longs in the front and not have them wear super fast.
Ofcourse this is a couple of years off for me.

The bolt pattern on the back of the A440/2 from an 80 series and an A440 from the 62 (as well as all split case patterns)is different. You would have to remove the tail housing off the A442 and bolt up an tail housing from the 62 inorder to use the split case. I plan on doing this as well. I already have the 62 A440 with attached split case . Marlin is currently testing and tuning a system to use a toybox behind a A440, but there are oiling issues they are trying to work thru.
I doubt you could make the klune work, since the bolt patterns are different.

Sorry for the delay, works been killing me and I haven't really had time to work on this, but I've basically come to the conclusion that I don't have the cash for a Klune right now, so it'll be a 700r4 to split case and converting the truck to part time 4wd.
With the adapter's for the klune and all, the cost is just too far above the split case adapter to warrant putting it in a expedition build. But, I still think its a viable option down the road if I decide I need lower gears...
