Rascal what happened to your rear axel?
Bruce,
Did not want to hijack Woodys thread. I saw Grog’s post about you needing to fix you rear axle. What happened? Mark,
We were in Clayton at the end of the best day of wheeling I have had to date. We had just finished getting through the bottom section of Blacksheep highway (Nolen can correct this if it's wrong) which was a really cool climb to a big ledge. Looking at this from the bottom - it is one of those that you say "No F'n Way..." Little did we know that, that was the easy part... The rest of the run - about 1/8th of a mile was twisting and turning with VERY big rocks and ledges. I had gotten to a point about mid way and lost my clutch. It was very strange because one second it was there and the next it was one. it was like the clutch pedal was pushed to the floor - but it wasn't. Butch came over to give me a hand and I ended up removing the slave cylynder (Which I had replaced earlier in the day because the old one blew). I think that the cylinder had a little ridge in it and the plunger just got stuck... Once that was fixed - Butch was still in the drivers seat so he fired it up and went to move forward - but the rear drivers wheel was wedged pretty bad. - Next thing was BOOM. Nolen proceeded to play tow truck and lifted the ass end out of the trail and I drove it back to the trailer. I can't wait to run that trail again!!! I've got all of the parts to rebuild the locker - which I buggered up in Moab. I'm going to send a pair of rear axles to Performance Cryo. And then put it all back together - hopefully until winter 05... __________________ Bruce Mitchell 07 TLC - It's nice to be back... |

I used 3M tape on the door weatherstrip and I put the tape on the door first and not on the seal. I was more worried about gettign a good stick to the metal. Anyway, worked fine, you can just see white around the black wx strip. Looks like ass but it is functional. |

Nice, dam that had to have been a good ledge wedging your tire. I know people break rear axels every now and then not often. I have two sets of rears I might send down the street for Cyro myself.
New main body for the ARB? Everything else inside of it ok or did you just get a new locker? I am replacing the diff case, the cross pin and all of the o-rings and seals. It is still much cheaper than a new locker. Tim Lund @ ARB USA really came through for me. And I am now much more knowledgeable about ARB Lockers. Between this and the field repair school that you held in South Dakota - I'm in pretty good shape! __________________ Bruce Mitchell 07 TLC - It's nice to be back... |

Cool deal on the tech support from ARB. It sure helps justify the cost of the air locker, they back you up 100% and don’t hesitate to next day air parts if needed. Yes Tim is a good guy he showed me around the ARB USA operation a few years ago. It was that visit I learned how easy it is to tare down the solenoids for service. Ok you’re my go to guy for when I blow up one of my ARBs and it needs a good rblt!
