last one. this will be the final look of the brackets. I was going truss it a little more but I think these are going to be pretty strong.

I lined them up with where the leaf springs usually mount so they should be good. I don't have much of a choice anyway because there is no room to move further in on the drivers side. Either the tires will rub or I will have a really wide track!

I went to the junk yard today and yesterday. It was the grand reopening and it was by one get one free!!! I got some 56" leaf springs that were practically brand new, disc brakes (with new pads!!!) for the rear disc conv., a spare driveshaft, 19" long coils from an E-350 van, some new front seats, and a few other things! all for just over $100! This is turning out to be the ultimate budget build!

I am hoping to get this thing resting on the wheels in a couple weeks!

progress is a beautiful thing!

The front end is resting on it's own! Still got a lot more work to do, but I am making progress!

You leaving the steering links low like that or is it gonna get hysteer? FYI, TJ front upper coil buckets have a shock mount integrated. Where are the shocks going to mount on yours'? Seperat bracket or build onto existing? Are you going to mod the stock panhard bar to fit? Did the Montero have an upper link or only used 2 lowers?

They are radius arms so they are only two lowers. The buckets I have are off an older 150 and they have shock mounts on them. I will mod the F350 panhard arm to fit. it's pretty beefy.

For steering I have it in my head. I am not sure I could explain it but you'll see once i get to it.

Did you scavenge the panhard bracket off the F350 or gonna fab your own? It's gotta be super beefy. On my 40, I had to curve the main 1/4" plate due to coil spring movement during flex:

I saved the one off the axle but not off the frame. I'll fab the one for the frame

I am hoping to get it to the point where I can tow it this weekend. We just bought our first house so I need to get this thing out of my garage and over to a friends house this weekend. From that point I will be taking a small break to get moved into the new place. My wife is pregnant and we have two little kids. Things are going to be crazy busy for a few weeks. Then I will hopefully have this thing up and running by the end of June!

It is setting on all fours. I have not had time to take pictures. I am working my tail off to get this thing to the place where I can safely tow it. The springs I got for the rear are pretty good size lifted springs so I had to actually set it sprung under. I guess that takes care of axle wrap issues. I think I am actually going to need to get taller springs in the front too. It sets a few inches higher in the back. I got one of the cross-members done (for the 205) I will fab up another one for the 203 but that is a little more tricky with the d-shaft in the way. with all that weight I have heard it is a good idea to do two cross-members. I also finished the panhard arm and will have the steering done tomorrow too. I'll try to take pics tomorrow or monday when I tow it.

finally updates!

Sorry it has been so long. We moved into our new house and with a pregnant wife we still have boxes laying around. I pulled the tranny out today to take it in and measured the driveshafts to get those done.

Four major things to get done before I can drive it.

Tranny
Driveshafts
Brake system
Exhaust

Things I need to do to get it trail ready???

Level out the front with the back (most likely spacers until I can get some different coils)
Clean up the wheels (blast, paint, maybe new o rings)
Cut of the run flats so they are just bead lock inserts
Make all the shifters for the dual case, and tranny
Cut the driver side rear well out and weld back together
Fix rust on pass side front window and put the windshield back in
weld up rock sliders and fab fron and rear bumpers

I am sure there will be other things to add to the list as the project continues

Here are some pics since I last posted.
Things I have done
Put in front seats (honda civic seats)
mounted shocks in front
finished steering and panhard arm.

Any comments on the panhard would be welcome. I think I might redo it before it hits the trail but at least this will make it so I can drive it back to my house. It is being stored at a friends right now which also makes it harder to go work on it. argh!!!

I am thinking about reinforcing the bracket on the frame side and lowering it so the angles or more flat on the parhard arm. Not sure if I need to though. any help or ideas on the panhard arm would be helpful.

as far as the draglink goes on the heim joint. It is pretty strong. extra reinforcing never hurt anyone though.

I agree... Moving that panhard bar forward and dropping a bracket from the frame seems like it would be a better option than the bend in panhard bar. How close are you to the pan/balancer/fan/shroud? What material is currently ph bar made of?

I think it is 1.5" 120 wall tubing. I have plenty of room from the balancer. From the picture angle it looks like it lines up more with the oil pan but it lines up with the balancer. It sets in front of the axle.

Monument area in the Jackson Creek development.

I have been doing some major remodeling of the inside of the house. Hopefully next week I can get the tranny back in and the driveshafts done! Got the tranny rebuilt and ready to go!

I have changed a lot from stock. Nothing since what is in the pictures at this point. I'll go over it all once I finish and try to take more pics as I go. I got the tranny installed today. I didn't take pics. I figured you've seen one you've seen in all.

I also made an adapter for the Ford F-350 master cylinder to the toyota booster. I still need to make and extend the push rod to hit the master cylinder just right so I get the correct braking. Sorry no pics of that yet. Hopefully I will be installing the dual t-cases next weekend and finishing up the brake stuff. Then I can get to the putting the driveshafts in and rerouting the exhaust!!! Then I can drive it!!! Still have a lot to do to get it trail ready but at least I can see the light of day and getting it back home!!!

Update finally!!!

Ok, So a lot has been going on since I last worked in this thing. We moved, I helped move my in-laws from California, I did some major remodeling in the house, and we had a baby. Sorry I did not take good picture along the way, but I got it home and it is running now.

First a pic of the baby, then the cruiser...

In the last pic is what my H1's looked like when I got them. the first pic is what they look like now. Things I have done.

rear disc brakes
made adapter for f-350 master cylinder to mate to Toy booster
rerouted exhaust. (I will need to do a little more moving because the front d-shaft will hit the exhaust when front axle is compressed)
cut driver side rear wheel out and patched back together
rear d-shaft shortened. 1330-1350 u-joint at the axle
th350 installed with dual cases and made my own crossmember.
added some spacers to the front springs to even things out until I get longer springs
maybe have done some other things just don't remember.

one last pic. These are the 36" tires that came with the wheels. I think I am going to go with the 37" military goodyears unless anyone is selling some 38's?
I found some of those 37's for $75 each.

With 36" tires it sits about 21.5" to the bottom of the frame rail. I think that is pretty good. looks like I have plenty of room to go bigger in the tires too!!!
