Knuckles and outers are fabbed.
Got another, different FJ 40 project, I have/need to finish before the rear steer starts. Rear steer 1610 project should start about the end of October. Will see if we can get Lance and Woody to do some blow by blow. Later, Jimbro |

Lucky bastig George, that rig looks just sick.
Or as one of the LC members said to me, its like a Nas Car built for off road... So far I guess no breakage on the super duty fron end? Rob Quote:

the front outers are a work of art. you can't even comprehend how sweet that setup is until you see it in person. the turning radius is pretty much retarded, i think it's 45 degs or something along those lines. now combine all that with the rest of the rig and a fun, capable driver like jim and you're having a killer time. plain bad-ass.

I was surprised at how little needed to be changed. The rear outer (inner frame stayed as original) frame tubes on each side had to be cut and redesigned to allow for the new shock location. New shock attachment points were installed along with some cross bracing. The lower link frame attachment point was moved inboard to allow the steering to turn intoward the frame. A new cross member was made to accomodate the new lower link attachment. At full 45* turn, the tires do not rub the link, but at full stuff and on its side there is enough side preasure that the tire will mark the link, but does not get boundup. fantastic work from the guys at sunray again. i knew i liked their work when we stopped by their shop last year. most excellent!
looks like the rear is just as busy as the front but then again, everything clears and works well. i can't think of anything this buggy does'nt have. like nlen said; it's a rat trap. ![]() really looking forward to seeing this buggy again with the 4ws.

got a little seat time in this rig this past weekend....
impressive...very stable... sadly, that means I need to again work on my buggy ideas and get something built.... Thanks Jim.....two runs up that hill probably cost me $40k

I had the pleasure of wheeling with Jimbro at the Hammers in October. That buggy, in the hands of a good driver like Jim, is really impressive. I ran out of drool towels very quickly.

Nah, but 40K is a cheap price for a scratch buggy. Look at what Tfab is putting out right now.....double the above number for that and triple it for Jim's buggy. I have never spent that kind of money at one shot until my current project, but I will tell you you can't find a 40K turnkey buggy anywhere with good quality parts except maybe Jim's Garage. That guys work is top knotch and his prices are amazing. Not often something uttered in the same sentance. Again, Pees....I will tell you like I have told you before, you know and I know, your cost of living is about 2x what mine is. |

Cost of living , yup, cali sucks fer dat.
I beg to differ on the 40K buggy, your old rig went around there, the one that for sale from BTF went around there, there is one on e-bay now for less and IMO at that cost it is just outa hand. Thats why I am still beating a SOA full bodied rig, I'm cheap. I do agree that you can spend 40K easy that is why it is so attractive to buy someone elses hand me down or whatever. Do you want me to send you the booster seat now or wait til you are closer to bein done ? And, I had not realized you served, thank you and god bless. I won't even comment on the Zuki. __________________ John on the hawgs

Hush heathen.
Pees, thanks..10 yrs. Clinton years :( Anyway, MUCH better to buy used if you can find what you want. There is a sweet 4-seater on Pirate for under 25K that probably cost 50k to build.... |
