Coilover an bumpstop Q's
HEy guys, I was wondering what the determining factor is on whether you'd run a 2.0 vs. 2.5 vs. 3.0 coilover (and in the case of bumpstops 2.0 vs. 2.5)
The only reason that comes to mind is that the larger dia. would allow for more fluid, i.e. better cooling. Therefore is it safe to conclude that unless you're doing desert pre-running type things that there is no real need for anything larger than 2.0? Does the same apply to what determines the size of your bumpstop? Does the weight of the vehicle play a roll i.e. an FZJ80 vs. a tube buggy? I've been reading all about coilovers, how they work, etc. but no one has seemingly compared or helped determine the proper sizing. Thanks in advance Sam

i think 2.5 is a pretty common size for non-tube buggy rigs....i got mine from poly and got them to install some rubber bump stops on the shock for me, they are working pretty well so far...but then i ain't desert racing or doing tim cameron style rock crawling either...my opinion, air bumps are bling and cool but pretty unneccesary for most folks

Sam, have you read the coilover bible on PBB? It's in the tech section if not. Give it a read, good stuff in there.

I definitely have, but I don't feel that it give a str8 up answer to my question. I think that a 2.5 coil and 2.0 bumps is what'd I'd go with at this point given what I have read so far and the wheeling/use of my rig.

PM Bigger Valves on PBB and ask him. He's a fellow club member, but don't tell him I sent you or he's liable to not answer your question, haha
He's where BillaVista got a lot of his tech from on the CO's. __________________ HOKIES UNITED Arya Ebrahimi '94 FZJ80 215k miles, locked, 4.88s, 285 Revo's, ARB Bullbar, Hella 4000's, homemade drawers '86 Toyota Pickup SAS'ed, welded, 4.88s, 38 TSLs, and lots o' tube

I want to retract my previous statement. I went back and re read the whole article and there is a section in part one that answers my coilover Q.
