I doubt they are tougher than the 35 spline D60 birfs. Heard claims of people lifting the back of there truck up when the front has gotten wedged with them.

Pretty stuff, but when I abandon the Toyota rear axle I'm going for something big, bad and cheep. Currently narrowed down to going with a 35 spline FF D60 or a 14 bolt like Al.
No sense seeking out anything stronger if the R&P won't be able to keep up with it... Anybody seen that picture in CRAWL a few months back of that rock racing buggy that hit a triple whoop wrong and busted both rear axle tubes off. Know that is sik! __________________ "The devil made me do it the first time. The second time I done it on my own." |

That's a bold statement considering that some of the 2.5 and 5 ton axles used birfs.. __________________ I am kinda gay....... Good advertisment anycase ..
The GQ and GU ( strong knucles and bierfields ) are widle used in Australia .. and even with no really big tires, are seriusly abused in the Outback Challenge for example with huge engines and 36" extreme treckers .. |

how does radial twist cause a bend like that ? it has to be from impact or force at the flange end. maybe wasted outer bearings. maybe the housing is craked and letting it flex.

I havn't seen any evidence of a cracked housing - don't freak me out - am heading for GSMTR this weekend!!! Bearings are good on both sides. A new axle fits in with no problems - everything lines up, slides in and rotates freely - not to say it isn't bent but there are no obvious clues that it is.
I have been wheeling some knarly super fun rock gardens and a few double whammy ledges - as evidenced by my recent rash of body damage, but as Al can attest - I've not backed down but rather not hammered like I used to. The hardest obstacle I ran on this axle had the left rear tire in the air most the time (running on side for about 30 minutes) so that wasn't it .Running a beefy track bar - and others have watched and say no wrap. Just put on a centered limiting strap to control any wheel hop if it occurs. I don't think I have to nurse it in all situations - but anything that's putting a lot of weight or as you say "force" at the flange end is gonna get a re-adjusted line if possible. I just think that hard wheeling and 39" RLK's don't mix with this size axle - time to admit it and move on up. Then again - Mike M. is running the same tires on stock axles but with a 4-link - so mayhaps my suspension limitations are the culprit. __________________ "The devil made me do it the first time. I was thinking about that the other day, I dont think its his suspension. I am starting to think those polys are weaker. It would have been a cool experiment to put the stockers back in to see how long they lasted.
