Forget those two - LS7 crate motors are available. Face it, you need, no, must have, titanium valves

I'm not ready to dig into the motor too much nor do I wanna screw up anything before Moab but I wouldnt mind adding a little poop too my poor little TBI 1995 5.7L TBI. I've been searching and seems I could get some reasonable gains by changing out my intake, cam, rockers, springs, and modding by throttle body. Sounds like this guy TBI CHIPS TRUCK MODS can reburn or set up a new chip for the upgrades. I dont see anything too hard about doing any of that but just wanted see if anyone has any insights/recommendations about swapping out the junk as I've never really torn into a motor before....

The plan is to run that set-up for a while and then freshen up (hot tank/bore) the current motor with a balanced 383 kit after Moab sometime.... the end goal is to be in the 350hp neighborhood after the stroker kit.
I'm not seeing the "hardcore" in what you want to do..................

That's because Zach is just a poser... We let him stay in here because he's kinda like having a retarded brother.

not to add fuel to the fire but I found a 1999 2500 6.0L Vortec literally down the street at Hillsboro wrecking for $1350 with a computer. They say its complete and runs well (93,000 miles) although they also say the compression is 150-190 (probably a blown head gasket?). I believe these are rated at 300hp/360lb-ft? What would it take to squeeze a few more ponies outta it? Is that the typical going price for them?

Gen III/IV engines have crazy aftermarket support. Really the sky is the limit. Stop by Barnes and Noble and take a look at How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8. It covers the Vortecs as well and has lots of build up receipes and dyno results (from simple bolt-ons to semi-race). How does a 550hp/600ft-lbs 6.0 build up sound? 561ft-lbs at 2,500 rpms sounds real good to me.

Now we're talkin... Barnes and Noble is on the way home from work. I'll be late for dinner tonight. I went by Powells yesterday and they about squat for engine building.

Is this the one you are talking about?

Barnes*&*Noble.com - Books: How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s, by Will Handzel, Paperback

Thanks Moby.

Yup, that's the one. I bought that when I was thinking of doing a gen III/IV swap. You know which way I went on that but I came really really close to dropping in a 5.3.

I'm sure there is tons of stuff on the web for gen III/IVs, I'm just not that up on them.
