Re-drilling GM pitman arm??
Anyone know of a way to fill and re-drill my GM pitman arm on my saginaw box to accept a toyota TRE?? I dont want to use a custom metric/SAE TRE because if i bend/break one on the trail, i cant get the part at any local shop. Possibly a weld in spacer that you drill and ream?? Any ideas?

Send it to Valley Hybrids in Stockton. AKA oarngeFJ45 here on MUD.
He can drill it to accept the 80 series tie rod end or the Dana 60 tie rod end, etc. __________________ Cruiser Dan at American Toyota Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 (I am not cruiser Dan) FJ40.5 Build - http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-cor...ly-begins.html http://www.fcfabrication.com/ |

You can drill the taper bigger with a tapered reemer, but you can't drill it smaller. I have seen custom Pittman arms with the Toyota sized taper on the business end.
Your best bet is to just upgrade to GM one ton ends like 4x4 Labs sells. Then you get a much beefier connection. If you wanted to stay Toyota, you should have just used a Toyota steering box. Besides if parts availability is what you want, it seems like the GM stuff is more common in the USA. __________________ Andrew 1971 FJ-40 Rubicon tested, 2F powered, some mods 1976 FJ40 Rusting slowly in the back yard 1984 FJ-60 H55f, 4.11, Now SOA! 1989 FJ-62 117k-son's driver for now-low and slow 1997 FZJ-80 Driveway queen |

I thought the fj80 ends were the same size as the fj40, only the thread size is different. How can he drill my pitman to an fj80 size when the hole is already too big? __________________ '72 FJ40, F, MAF Header, 75 Aisin carb, rear spring flip, SOA, 35" BFG MT's, GM power steering, Sidekick rear seat, prelude front seats, reinforced factory tire carrier, custom bumpers and rockers, etc. |

I was thinking the 80 series tie rod is 1degree different taper than the Dana 60 tie rod. Looking at then side by side it's is hard to tell them apart.

Cone washers.
A good NAPA or parts jobber should have them. You would have to take you pitman arm in as well as the tie rod. __________________ Cruiser Dan at American Toyota Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 (I am not cruiser Dan) FJ40.5 Build - http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-cor...ly-begins.html http://www.fcfabrication.com/ |

pre 79 40 series tre's are smaller than 80 series . 60 series tapers are the same .If you do have the larger taper you could get a 79ish camaro pitman arm and it'll have the proper taper , it's also 7" pin to pin .

call marlin or Mudrak. Send Mudrak your arm that you know fits your splines on box, he cuts off the spline end and welds it into some 1/2 plate then puts the hole where you want it, 5 , 6 , 7 " whatever fits your system. And you can have the hole put in top or bottom for frame clearance issues if need be, he can also bend the arm if need be. 1 stop shop.
