Its Getting there, we busted some stuff out this weekend, and as long as it keeps going good, everything will be done!
Engine is still at the machine shop with less than a month to go ![]() __________________ 1976 FJ40 TBI350 700R4 Dana300 SOA Locked 37" PBR's Colorado Land Cruisers Redline Land Cruisers CrAwLoRadO.com FJ-40 Family Cage Ready for Sale! Last edited by Isotel; 04-02-08 at 01:45 PM. |

Looks good. I have one question though, are you going to brace the frame mount for the track bar to the other frame rail? It looks like a long lever to twist the frame.

We already looked into that, the track bar mounts to the outside/bottom of the frame and right on the other side of the frame is a cross member that runs to the other frame rail.. i think it will be fine!

I want to do one with a 3.4L and FJ80 axles, but. . . .That rear suspension will not hold ![]() The roll center is wayyyy to low with the panhard bar mount low on the axle like that and will body roll from hell espically with the springs inboarded too, the one link brackets on the axle will get ripped off or twisted and the frame mount on the one link will NOT hold. U-bolts dont get in the way that much and they will add a lot more "clamping" strength to the axle mounts and take some stress of the welds on the spring perch. Its quality fab work, but that one link will put a hell of a lot of stress on those mounts. What tubing is that on the top mount 1 1/2? 1 3/4 x .120? Its not THAT hard to bend when you talk about suspension componets What size heim is that? Is it a good one or a McMaster Carr special? Sooooooo much stress on that point Broken link suspension SUCKS DONKEY BALLS Its sucks for you and all of your buddies. Its a good idea but WHERES THE BEEF ![]() On the other hand, at least you wont be bending expensive ass coilovers or airshocks when it breaks ![]() __________________ www.tachedoutoffroad.com http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-cor...ined-taco.html Project: Dead Lined Taco http://forum.ih8mud.com/expedition-b...ml#post3376062 Ultimate East Coast Places To Go Last edited by TachedOutOffRoad; 04-03-08 at 06:45 AM. |

Dam Office Chair Fabricators ![]() Thanks for the Comments, I agree with you on a couple of things, One being the tubing at the one link Cross member mount, We are going to add some gusseting! The other is the axle tube mount on the one link.. Ive seen these break there on leaf springs that used Plates and bolts vs. U-bolts. we will add some material there i think ![]() That one link is the Largest joint i have ever seen, i think it is a 1 1/4" or so, Regardless its Beefy Stuff! The other aspects of the suspension should be fine, Personally im not a fan or one links and Radius Arms, but its Ben's Rig, and he will build it however he wants! his plan is to prove me wrong in moab Ben has ben Building Rock Buggies for his full time job for the past few years, they build Rovers with the same Radius Arm and Suspension setups that ben is using.. They are Simple designs, that have Proven very effective, and even Got them 12th at king of the hammers, and i believe 3rd place in the First XRRA Event this season. All with a V6 engine. and what fun is it if everyone builds their rig the same exact way.. ![]() __________________ 1976 FJ40 TBI350 700R4 Dana300 SOA Locked 37" PBR's Colorado Land Cruisers Redline Land Cruisers CrAwLoRadO.com FJ-40 Family Cage Ready for Sale! Office Chair Fab by day, TachedOut Fab Works by night
![]() I just got so sick of dislocated suspension on my POS AND on nice rigs Youve got to watch out for a-holes like me and do some preventive mantenance like "heres the upper link mount, yes it will get more gusseting " ![]() Is this his truck? Its the only Rover I know of in KOH. He gets street cred' for driving it ![]() __________________ www.tachedoutoffroad.com http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-cor...ined-taco.html Project: Dead Lined Taco http://forum.ih8mud.com/expedition-b...ml#post3376062 Ultimate East Coast Places To Go |

No, its not the yellow one, (they build that one too), but its the Red one "Rock Ware".. i cant seem to find any photos of it
![]() The RockWare Rig is not "his rig", Ben just works for them, and helps as a chase/Pit Crew at races, he has build most every piece of the pig over the past couple of months on weekends on a Limited Budget. Ben has Built, and Races a Truck in the Colorado Hill Climb association, so although he is young he has alot of experience building and driving.. Yes, Linked Suspensions Suck when the break! we saw a retired comp buggy Break Everything on hes rear axle just like the photo above (3-link, upper link mount broke) on the Exit on the Patriot Trail, It took a lot or ratchet straps and thinking to get him off the trail. the next rig was a Yota on 37's and leaf springs, and he walked right up the same line, did not slip a tire!! This is one of the Reasons i have Kept Leafs on My Rig and remember the is a Friendly Gesture.. ![]() BTW i am sitting in an office chair while i Spew my Web wheeler opinion all over the place ![]() __________________ 1976 FJ40 TBI350 700R4 Dana300 SOA Locked 37" PBR's Colorado Land Cruisers Redline Land Cruisers CrAwLoRadO.com FJ-40 Family Cage Ready for Sale! Cage is almost done. Motor is back from the machine shop, Justin Assembled it and we Dropped the driveline back in it, Made some motor mounts, and did some Extra Plating to some of the areas that may have been week..
the front suspension needs lower shock tabs, and a Panhard Bar to be complete, then the majority of the Fab work is done, and we can focus on getting all the wires and bolts back in the right place. no time for photos, ![]() Oh, and i got some Time on Rusty Mustard, cage is almost done. ![]() __________________ 1976 FJ40 TBI350 700R4 Dana300 SOA Locked 37" PBR's Colorado Land Cruisers Redline Land Cruisers CrAwLoRadO.com FJ-40 Family Cage Ready for Sale! |

Too bad they didn't build a couple, I know at least one local that would have bought one.
