I just got back from wheeling in Tellico and a private area in Tennessee for a week. Early in the week I broke one rear axle shaft which took out the carrier bearing. Then on the last day of our trip I broke something in the rear diff. I haven't opened up the rear to see what broke, I think it's the ring and pinion because it is still driveablein 4wd but slips some in 2wd. It could be a poor set-up of the diff from the broken axle.

I guess it's time for chromo rear shafts. Are the Poly Performance axle shafts the best ones on the market now? Trail Gear is out of stock right now.

R.K. Sorry I didn't get to catch up more on Thursday. I didn't intend to run with that group - and sorry if they held anything up for you (Steve and I parked our junk at the top and made an effort to more the others along best we could).

Friday just ran Upper 2 again - after fabbing up an airline for my ARB made it up in the muck - the fella with the fresh mint 40 with the ford in it said he made it up the center line with no worries.

No breakage for me this trip. Took a few pics of your new cage/link work - just a really really good looking Cruiser!

My third Poly long side held up all week and I ran Schoolbus 3 times, Upper 2 twice, and Helicopter and Gaurdrail with no winching - but I really did take it easy for fear of breakage. Played in a few safer spots where Schoolbus ends at Pinchrock, that big rock at the entrance to 8 and the rock garden at Crawfords. Conclusion - the Poly might hold up as long as I keep crawling, but damn I wanted to get it a few times....

Well I think the Poly will just be a good investment.... I was there when RK broke the rear shaft... Heck he didnt even have the engine roaring... So I think it was just a fluke

This rearend was used by Rich some... then RK bought it... So it could be the axle already had some twist... Or maybe not...

End result, RK is buying good insurance.

Or upgrade to something that actually is beefy..

Driving style will decide what axles you need. You can snap axles easily with 33's if you try hard enough. Or you can drive more conservatively and keep axles alive with 40's...

How do you want to drive?

Mace...

RK is all Toyota... so, ya I guess he could go to a new Tundra Rear or something like that. Good thinking... I am sure he has never been told D60 or Rockwell or Dynatrac... Have ya RK

Since the break I have tried to think what is in the Toyota Lineup that is Beefer for a Rear... Anyone have thoughts and keep it Toyota

I ordered a pair of Poly Performance rear axle shafts. I figured that would be the easiest solution for right now. If they don't hold up, I'll rethink my axles.

I have been told numerous times I need to go to tons or Rockwells, but I think I can make these work. I've got a lot in my current axles, so I'm hoping not to have to pull them out. If I do upgrade, I'll go to a d60 and 14b.

I didn't know Toyota made a 5.7 Vortec, SM465 or the LoMax205

New Tundra Get a wider diamond housing for the front with at least a Tacoma sized third (do they make them for LC thirds?), and he's golden.

Hell, it's OBVIOUS to me he needs wider axles now.. His junk always seems to be rubber side up...
