i am using a 2.5" Double Ended hydrolic Steering. full hydro im deciding on whether to get a new tub or try to rebuild the one i have. its in pretty bad shape and most of it would have to be chopped and replaced.

the brand is PSC i chose this because i didn't want to have to figure out how to get all that travel to work with a arm from the steering going to the axle. so with this full hydro all i need is fluid lines and i will have all the power i need to turn 40-46 inch tires.

well i am guessing its going to be like a tractor when you turn it stays were you turn it. this means it does not recenter itself when u let go of the wheel. but i don't mind that because this is going to be mainly off road. my 79 fj40 is for the road.

46s on yota axles? Good luck with that, not only strength but width is going to be a huge concern.

I think you should lower the truck 6", and hack the frame in the rear so you can position your coilovers correctly.

x2. good luck with 46s. the steering parts on the axle would not be to happy.

this is were im at so far. i am testing the frame to make sure i didn't forget anything then it goes off to get galvanized. the body isn't the one im using. i will be getting a new 3/4 tub because this one the p/o tried to fix it by putting bondo over the hole thing and fiberglass.

I am a bit concerned with your suspension set-up. I think you should have invested in some 60 series axles with Longs (at the very least) & relocate your coilovers. Forget 46's it will never happen with your set-up & wheelbase (especially if you consider it to be a rock crawler, I think 40's are going to be pushing it. If you are stuck with the 40 axles I would look at notching the frame maybe.
What wheelbase have you got & have you even considered this ?

ok well here is the update so far. i have finished all the welding on the rear axle and am waiting on the longfields to come in. i have also finished the front bumper, rear bumper and the frame which is now in the posses of getting galvanized. i have my rear 1/2 tub and have chopped the rear bed of the original body. i would like to know how people clean up there tubs? i am thinking of taking everything off of it and getting it sandblasted what to you think?

Even if you dont hack the whole rear off, the coilovers will need some more support than just the ends of the tube welded on the top of the frame: make a third leg that goes to the inside of the to-be boxed in frame( putting some of the stress in another plane), tie the two mounts together, gusset the mounts you have or something. I promise that a dislocated rear coilover suspension really, really sucks and is expensive I love big tires on Toyotas, you just have to have to beef to make it work Good luck!

i am tieing them together the back is welded together and the front will be bolted so i will be able to remove the engine or work on it without having the bar go across over top the engine.

Awesome work!! That is going to be one badass rig!! Just curious, where are you located? Hopefully someplace near some mountains so that thing can stretch its legs! We will need flex pics when she is done

Keep it up!
Brian

I see future axle breakage. those spacers will put tons of added stress on the knuckles and rear shafts.

Other then that all looks really good.
