I should clarify that you couldn't pay me to use a stock toyota pump. I have friends that run high performance PSC replacement toyota pumps on their trucks with decent success, but before they changed up pumps they had a hell of a time turning. |

Mos def put assist on, you can always upgrade to a better pump if you find it needed
I would try to fit a sag pump, but that just me |

I want to put a sag pump and a ram on mine, i think for the time being im just gonna sleeve the stock tie rod and see if anything breaks.
The stock PS pump just isnt cutting it for me in the rocks. I wonder, would it be preferable to have ram assist with a undersized pump (ie OEM) or no ram at all? Does anyone make or have a writeup of their saginaw pump bracket for a 3fe? __________________ 1988 FJ 62- SUA, 1" body, 34" trxus mudders, 2.5" exhaust, 27spl Longs/Pig Inners, 4.88s, torsen LSD/lockright, 4runner brakes, other random stuff... 1986 pickup- 2wd, 22r, 4 speed, DD oh, and custom tree damage |

No assist = good steering on the street, tough turning in rocks
Assist/stock pump = sluggish street steering, decent turning in rocks. With the Sag pump, you can mod it slightly to speed up the output for the ram which will give you stock feeling street manners but will also give you good assist in the rocks. __________________ My old 40, lowrider on leafs: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=19561.0 Building my 60: http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wa...ilds-60-a.html www.4x4him.com |

How is a full PSC ram assist setup on the street? Does the pump give adequate pressure and volume to keep it from being sluggish?

Hydro assist does not have to be sluggish on the street. It is a matter of designing the system to behave hte way you want it to..
Not tough actually. __________________ I am kinda gay....... My Myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=75712409 "Mary Poppins: In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and - SNAP - the job's a game." |

a full hydro system can be non reactive. My 40 is that way. But it still will return to center lightly. It just takes more thought.
Hydro assist does not remove the axles return to center ability. __________________ I am kinda gay....... My Myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=75712409 "Mary Poppins: In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and - SNAP - the job's a game." |

I run a toyota pump. Fine for one the street and about half the day on the trail til it over heats and start puking fluid.
Although the pump has 180k on it and is 24 years old. I am going to just buy a new one from C-Dan...If its lasted this long I am just going to put another Toyota one in. |
