Have you messed with the fueling settings yet?

I have the same driveline transplanted into a Land-Rover pickup, it's such a great no-bull work truck engine.

LOL!

You mean have I turned up the pump?

Nope. I have to get used to the torque and power and then start tweeking as I need more. For this vintage of 5.9 only one company makes larger injectors. I could then turn the pump up.

Negative ghost rider... Ive bumped the pumps on all of my 1st gens and several more for friends. Not HUGE changes from stock but much more driveable.

Ill bump Brads truck once its on the road and we have a good baseline on it.

Better throttle response, much more peppier to drive, no loss of mileage. Smoke based on how much you want it turned up. My Crawler Hauler will smoke untill the boost comes on but it pulls like a train.

Only takes about 15 minutes to do and can be put back just as quick. Let me know if you want to tweak it...

If I could just remember to take the dang thing out of 4x4 I could get most of that. I'll have to fix the idiot light behind the wheel.

Chris
I was thinking the 300hp range. After the intercooler, etc.

If yours is an early 12V with no intercooler it already has BIG injectors. The later rotary 12V engines had 7mm injectors, yours has 9mm (they went with smaller injectors due to head cracks). Don't change the injectors. Crank up the pump and put a 3200 RPM governor spring in the pump. You think it has power now, with these two mods you'll be thinking you drive a hotrod camaro.

Mine (Banks intercooler, stock everything else 1993 6BT in a 4500 lbs Land-Rover pickup) is turned up to about 220 around town but I can crank it up to near 260-270 in 5 minutes.

I pull off the side of the road and put it in 2Hi. WOW!

No more vibration at 72mph and I have snappier acceleration.

I figure I would tell this story before OrangeFJ45 and DeHondaGod did.

Was it factory intercooled? 1991 was the year of the change. 91.5 is intercooled, 91 was not. 91 - Big injectors, 91.5 small injectors. You can still get lots of power from the smaller injectors.

You don't have a spare Getrag trans by chance, or know where to get one? They are impossible to find up here.

I'll ask around. Most of the guys around here are running the NV4500.

Is there a date code or serial # on the block that I could post to find out which engine I have?

I just looked at the early photos of your project and it looks like an 89-91 motor with the big injectors, unless the head has been swapped. The engine CPL is on the timing cover tag (driver's side, near injection pump), that is the engine number that Cummins uses for reference. This number tells the Cummins parts guy exactly what you have. Bring it in every time you get parts, it is a sweet system.

LOTS of good info on Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource - Cummins - Home, 1st gen forum.

Edit: are you glad you went with 4.10s? That 1st is looow!

like i said i like it how it is
but if i had been you and it was painted like that after asking for something else i think i woulda been a little pissed... (even asuming the other issues didnt happen)

tho him offering the 60 day re do free of charge since he went against ya was good. glad your liking it better this way than the generic way.

Well I put the roof rack off of my FJ45EC on the tow rig. Wife laughed and said it looked stupid without a gooseneck trailer attached.

I think I agree bt I'm not totally convinced.

I had the decal on before I had the headlights working.

Sometimes my priorities get in the way of real progress.
