vehicle speed sensor Q

I have a chevy 350 TBI which had a 700R4 behind it, so I needed to intsall a vehcile speed sensor. I assumed that was for the tranny and to calibrate the shifting, But I have assumed before and that makes me an... well I think you know.

Now I am putting in a manual trans so my question is..

Do I still need the vehicle speed sensor for the fuel delivery system?

And do I ground the park neutral switch so it stays in open or closed loop or whatever it is supposed to be?

Tony, VSS on TBI only helps out a bit by helping lock up the TQ converter and slight fuel adjustments depending upon actual vehicle speed.. Many Run without one on TBI with no issues.. mine is currently disconnected..

im sure you Cross the Park Neutral Switch wires without a vss

On TBI setups I think you need it for low speed (less than 5mph?) and for idle setup, as well as cold start.

Yes it helps, but you don't "need" it..

How are you running you speedometer? you may be able to have a speedo shop make an adapter from the 205 to the toyota input on your old VSS..

I had Jags that run build me one that adapted the dana 300 to the toyota Speedo Cable

Downey sells some versions that can be incorporated into your various Tcases.

just did a V6 4.3 Vortec from a 2003 Auto into a Toy 5 speed. had to get Fuelinjection.com to remove the VATS and they did a bunch of other stuff too, but they kept the VSS which was used for idle down, decelration fuel cut, A/C Idle up, and 1st gear high demand A/C compressor shut down, as well as to "reference" the other sensors at idle.

If you get someone to flash the brain, it's a good idea to have the VATS, 3rd o2 sensor, neutral start switch, and the MFI interface.

leaving the VSS off will trigger a check engine and may also trigger a rich fuel setting ( o2 sensors turned off, full enrichment).

P.S. Anyone know how many pulses per mile that an Audi 2.8 needs? I don't have a VSS in my rig and it's definitely not happy.
