skid plate thickness ?

i have a sheet of 3/16 steel laying on my garage floor.
is this thick enough for skinning a skid plate?

may be able to get two or three skids out of it.

Jim,
I've got one of Bobby Moran's skidplates. His are 1/4" and I've had 90% to 95% of my rigs weight sitting firmly on the skid. It's held up great!

It really depends how is the skid design, if you have large flat surface, say more then 12"x12" i wouldn't go 3/16"

My skid plate got some serious beating, it has bent at one place. I will post up pictures soon in my thread.

ok, my bad.

this won't be a free hanging plate.
i'll be basicly tubing out the skid plate like Poser does and skinning the bottom of it.
probably 4 cross tubes with spreaders.

thanks for the links and info guys.

If it is taut like a trampoline and supported from all side with cross bracing it will be ok. If you are relying on it by itself, no go. The stock fj40 skids are 1/8, a 1/16 more is not enough. Pulling mangled skids from under my truck was humorous.

My skid is 3/16.. it's supported by 2 crossmembers, and the frame rails. it bent badly when I had it unsupported (initially had it hanging down at the back 1.5".

Once I tucked it up tight to th frame rails, it's holding up well, and it's something like 30x36"..
