Jim,
I've got one of Bobby Moran's skidplates. His are 1/4" and I've had 90% to 95% of my rigs weight sitting firmly on the skid. It's held up great! http://forum.ih8mud.com/merchandise-storefront/25840-skidplates.html __________________ "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have." ~ Thomas Jefferson And yes, I'm on of those "Rural American's" that clings to his guns and his religion!

ok, my bad.
this won't be a free hanging plate. i'll be basicly tubing out the skid plate like Poser does and skinning the bottom of it. probably 4 cross tubes with spreaders. thanks for the links and info guys.

Alright Jim, ya peaked my interest. My search for Poser's thread (This just might be common knowledge to EVERYONE but me....forgive please) turned up empty. Got a linky for me?

If it is taut like a trampoline and supported from all side with cross bracing it will be ok. If you are relying on it by itself, no go. The stock fj40 skids are 1/8, a 1/16 more is not enough. Pulling mangled skids from under my truck was humorous.

My skid is 3/16.. it's supported by 2 crossmembers, and the frame rails. it bent badly when I had it unsupported (initially had it hanging down at the back 1.5".
Once I tucked it up tight to th frame rails, it's holding up well, and it's something like 30x36".. __________________ Rich in NC FJ - '73 FJ-40 Cruggy - LSx/4-wheel steer Rockwells/4-link/coilovers/42's Build thread --> http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-corner/124040-keeping-low-rockwells-k-under-knife-again.html '01 Chevy 2500HD 8.1 Allison Lux-o-tow |
