I dont like optima either. I am a fan of Odyssey.

Bravo for staying with your oem harness. Once I got into mine I ripped it out put in an after market replacemnt.

Good luck on the first start

Bravo for working with your OEM harness. Once I got into my harness I realized it wasnt worth dealing with and pulled it out and installed a aftermarket one.

Good luck getting it cranked over

optimas are a crap shoot with quality now a days. DD or not, they should actualy be able to last.
I'm not saying whether or not they are the battery to buy, I was just throwing it out there that my blue top has treated me well. Watch, tomorrow I'll be posting up that it's dead now that I've mentioned it. My buddy Kenny has gone through 3 red tops in his 80 with the same problem, not being able to hold a charge.

The Sears batteries seem to be better. I forget the model battery, maybe marine platinum?

Anyway, back to D'Animal. Is the rig started yet?!?

Well I went to start it first thing in the morning and got nothing.
6:42am Set up cam corder
Added 5 gallons of diesel
Cracked the injector lines and bled the system.
Noticed starter was sluggish.
Checked battery connections, again. Good. (New Yellow Top Optima Batteries)
Getting 8 volts to starter and IP (injector pump)
Added additional ground straps to the engine to the fire wall and engine to the frame.
Double checked the wiring to make sure I did not have a direct short causing low voltage.
Checked Batteries. One is 12.7 volts, other is 6.6volts.
Connect Pulse style trickle charger to both batteries.
Double check my wiring to the fuel transfer switch.
Connect 1976 FJ 40 to batteries for addition boost.
Starter still sluggish.
Remove starter and bench test it, Good.
Threw a Road Cone at the neighbors dog who peed on the tire.
Installed starter and added ground strap directly from starter bolt to engine block.
Starter still sluggish.
Wonder if motor is blown.
Notice Jumper Cables are melting.
Connect my good jumper cables.
Starter still sluggish.
Park the 1976 FJ 40 and pull the Tow Rig in action.
Connect Good jumper cables.
Double check wiring again, now have 13 volts to the starter and IP.
Check Batteries on the Tow Rig.
One is 12.6 volts, other is 17.3 volts.
Engine is still sluggish.
Notice old battery cables that were on the motor when I got it. ( actually noticed as I walked over to retrieve my road cone.) They are the size of my thumb.
Connect old battery cables.
Motor spins over like it is on 24volts.
Check all batteries and connections again since the difference was like a gas engine with and then without spark plugs.
Still won't start.
Recheck that I purged all the old fuel out of the system.
Engine is getting fuel but not enough.
Connected 5 gallon fuel can directly to lift pump.
Purged air from system.
Add oil since now my new oil filter is full, etc.
Label my fuse panel.
Stare at the air intake system that is in mock-up stage.
Double check the Tow rig batteries and find the alternator is putting out 17.3 volts.
Look for neighbors dog so I can clean off the tip of my boot.
Post misc stuff in the For Sale section on mud.
Had one of those "Living in the Moment" sessions while I ate a Snickers Bar and wondered if my thermometer was broke since it said 105.
Went after the the project again double checking everything.
I found the fuel solenoid on the pump was clicking but not opening enough, I guess.
Remove fuel solenoid, clean the plunger, etc and reinstalled.
Hit the key and fuel sprayed everywhere.
Tightened the Injector lines.
Hit the key again and the rig started and and ran great.
Checked the gauges.
Noticed more water was coming out of the water pump than probably going through it.
Found massive oil leak between the Wabco Vacuum pump and the Power steering pump.
Called Mace and let him be the first to hear it run.
Laughed at my days adventures.
Turned the cam corder on and shot video.
Downloaded video to Laptop.
Downloaded video to You Tube.
Came in house and cleaned up.
Noticed You Tube was not working.
11:00pm Went to bed.

Holy hell, if I did a quarter of that in a day, I would be happy.

The big question is, when you called it a night, were you smiling?

I also, removed and welded a gate on one of the pastures.
Stacked 30 bales of hay.
Mowed the yards.
Took the 72" mower off the big tractor and put the box scraper on.
Serviced the Kubota by changing all the fluids and filters, including the Hydro system.
Groomed the new riding arena.
Mucked the horse stalled.
Groomed Old riding arena.
Lunged Wizard to give him some exercise.
Ran the Beagles.
Fielded about 30 tech calls from work.
etc.

I was satisfied with what I got done in a day.

should be interesting how hot it will run with an air to water after cooler. Are you running 3inch exhaust all the way out?

EGTs were a problem for me on long grades till I went with a volvo intercooler. It had no inter or after cooling at first.

Sounds good though.
