I worked on the engine mounting brackets today. I did not want to use the stock front mounts because this assy is so long between attachments points. It would be bolted down on the front of the engine and the AA adaptor behind the NV4500. That leaves about 4 1/2 foot between attachement points with a few things coupling it all together. I read on a different site that the bell housing will crack if supported this way.
I moved my front mounts as close to center of the engine as possible. The rear mount will just "balance" the engine.
It takes awhile when fabing with 3/8" plate steel.
I decided to use the Cradle design instead of the flat design. I am using new 2F engine mounts. if I used the Gell mounts, I would have had to mount them flat.
Here is the exhaust side.

Enough room for the Turbo oil drain.
All the bolts are not in yet.

Injector Pump side.
I don't have a starter yet so I took measurements from my tow rig.

Getting the assy in was a bit of a task.
If Osha was around, they would have left in a hurry.
Remember the 37 1/2" top lip bumper height?

It is in but now all the measuring begins.
Front Driveshaft clearance
Drain plugs
Crossmembers
Engine Mounts
Shifter
Steering Arms
etc.
Front driveshaft looks good, except for the drain plug.
I think I have the biggest honking drain bolt I have ever seen.

New Crossmembers are not built yet, but nothing lines up.
Drain plug for the Orion is sitting on top of my crossmember that is holding the front of my traction bar.

LOL!
For what those cost, I should frame the box and hang it next to our wedding picture.

Plenty of clearance on both sides for the new frame mounts, that I have not made yet.
Plenty of room to service the valve train as well.

Steering clearance looks really good.
Looks can be decieving.
The engine is still being supported by the engine hoist. No weight is on the suspension. This is where I stopped for the night. I have to support the engine on the tube fenders and let the weight sit on the suspension to check the clearance before I make the frame mounted engine mounts.
Dieselcruiserhead said he installed his Cummins and then raised the engine 3" about 6 months later.

Your oil drain bolt is huge! You'll gain an inch just replacing that with something else. Clearances are looking nice and you can always adjust the bump stops if needed. I'm jumping ahead right now but are you going to wrap the exhaust to the driver side or will you route it out the passenger side? Soon that thing will be purring.

The exhaust will go down the exhaust side of the frame.
Sounds simple but the bed will come off and the 2 Con - Fer 22 gallon tanks will be moved over to accomidate the exhaust. This was takin into consideration when FC Fabrication built the brackets for the tanks/rear shock towers. Nothing like planning a year and 4 modifications in advance.
The dual batteries will be installed on the driverside as well. Right now I have the single battery installed on the passenger side.
The wiring and fuel feed and return lines will be moved to the IP side of the frame and a larger diameter will be used.

Frame mounts may be a little overkill.
The slots are for a 19mm thick wall socket.
Yeh, that is an American quarter for size reference.

Exhaust side engine mount installed.
Now the bolt of the rubber engine mounts hits the oil drain for the Turbo.

For eye balling everything, the engine sits pretty level.
Use the bib mount or the bumper for a visual line of reference and compair them to the bottom of the oil pan.
The oil pan clears the hi steer arms, etc.
The top of the front bumper is now 36". I hope my front end is not too light now.

I decided to go with the Wabco vacuum pump and power steering pump. I don't have the room for the dual vacuum pods like I have on my Tow rig. The starter gets in the way.

The front cover is on and the rest of the Parts and pulleys are going on.
I'm kinda glad I don't have a starter, since it would be running now.

Looking very fine there !!!!!!!!!Glad ya got the KDP done. Now you can breath easier !!!!!!!!! Those things will do some carnage to some pricey parts.........I have not done it to my 6BT yet. it has 300K +/- on the clock and so good so far. I just bought it last fall and rarely drive it at the moment. Need to catch up on some PM's with it. Will get to it someday I hope.It is more common in the 2nd Gen. 4 & 6BT, etc. from what I have read on the Dodge/Cummins forums. Wonder why Cummins has not fixed it themselves yet. They are so good with other issues and this is a no brainer to fix once you have the front cover off. It would be a 30 second fix on the assembly line................

Rear crossmember is kicking my but.
The crossmember is 90% done but the rubber mount I have is too tall.
But I fixed it.
http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9216
I will do a thread on it on IH8Mud when I get back to the computer with the pictures.
