Something like this will net you roughly an inch or 2 drop (this was on my 40). Then sleeve the shackle bushing through the frame and you can pick up a couple of more inches. Should be pretty easy to get you down a bit.

You don't need adaptor plates. That's what gaffer tape was invented for.

G'day D'Animal,

I have really enjoyed watching your progress, thank you for posting it. I'm sure you have seen this truck before, but I thought I would post it here anyway. This was taken in Virginia in about 1996 or 1997 if I remember correctly. I don't know where she is now, but she was featured in the Trails back in the 90s sometime. I have been planning a conversion like this for about 15 years... one day I will do it too...

Cheers,

Josh

21' isn't that about 252"?

That is one hell of a massive wheelbase.

You are one of the few who have seen it in person. It is Big.

The wheel base right now is 121 1/2"

I really like the looks of that truck. I had it as a screen saver for a few years and told the wife I was going to build one one day.

Me too: I have planned one for years. I want to do one while I am still living in Australia using an HJ47. I want to keep the 116" wheelbase, and take 16-18" off the front of the bed to extend the cab back the same amount. I would love to put 75 series axles under it with a 1HD-t (see the photo), 5 speed and transfer case. A similar idea, although much more work, would be to put 80 series or HD105 axles under it to get the coil springs.

Cheers,

Josh

Here is another one that really looks nice.

I don't like the departure angle in the rear so I stretched my wheelbase a bit.

Wow, that green one is absolutely beautiful! I agree with you about the departure angle, though- looks a bit nicer with a bit of a bum out the back. Yours is going to be really amazing when it is done, I'm sure.

I really want to make one with a factory bed, though, as I love the way they look. It is really hard to find them with the factory bed (or 'Tray' in Aussie), but I have been looking. I like the idea of keeping mine factory wheelbase, and just moving the cab back a bit. Of course, once I get started, I will change all sorts of things, I'm sure.

I love the Vortec in my HJ47, so I will likely wind up doing that to the Extra cab one day. With your tow rig, however, I think you have the power and highway end of things tied up.

Cheers,

Josh

That particular truck comes from Aus and as far as I know it is on the larges legal size rubber that can be used in that state.

But yes Chappys it seems D'animals truck will dwarf it!

D'Amimal you could also get some custom main leafs built with the spring eyes on the bottom. The military wrap is a little bit of an issue but my local spring shop said they could do it. I have a set of custom fronts that I am going to be using shortly when I do my SOA. The back is going to be a little different...

Thanks for the info!

I think if Wek-Link and Freds40 and I "get on it" in a weekend we can get it a little lower and more useable and less of a show queen.

Looks like a lot of angle on the drag link. What drop do you have on your pitman arm? I guess you can only drop so far till you have interference with the leaf spring
