The red things are bushings. Wow. Wow. Wow. That build table is impressive! The only way to get one of those tubs square is to build a new frame. When Todd Yonkman did his, he had so many shims in his onld frame mounts getting it close to level. I cannot wait to see this thing in the end....Great Work! |

Guys
They are poly bushings, correct. We machined alluminum sleeves which will be inserted into the 2x2 and 2x3 that they give you for mounts. The sleeves will then be TIG'd to the box mounts on the cab. This should be alot stronger than a simple single shear mount PLUS it leaves my floor clean for cage . I will have some pics up today as they are bent up and ready to go.I am working on the connection of the front cowl to tub. Aqualu bolts it together with 4 bolts in the floor...which i want something stronger so I am drilling, countersinking, bucking and microshaving aircraft rivets at the overlap in a nice pattern....I have an AP w/Avionics and I have a sheetmetal fetish so...it has to be sick. I will be posting pics soon...should have mounts done today hopefully. Thanks for the props also ![]() Larry __________________ TLCA #17281 FJ45 SWB Project, Aqualu, 6.0 L HO, Fab9's, In Progress 66 FJ40 Project/Parts ? 84 4-Runner, Bone Stock Texas Truck 87 4-Runner, 22RET, SAS, Etc. 05 Ram CTD, BD, ATS Trans "I could have been a chimney sweep....does anyone know where I put that matchbook cover?" |

I have nothing to say that hasn't been said already. Its great to see the Canadian content too! NWF and Aquilu do very nice work. Check out Todd's truck at the Aquilu web site too. It was just featured in 4WD magazine.

Medusa,
Honestly I don't know. They are spring eye bushings that were the right dimensions to fit into the existing box tube welded to the tub. Yes, that is their OEM firewall, which I will be changing in places to suit our build.

very very very very very very very very very very very nice.
I thought Gary's (wagoneer) build was awesome, this is going to get even better! I know it's HUGE motor, but it sure would be cool to see a duramax/allison combo in a cruiser. __________________ 95' FZJ80 OME med./J lift, ARB rack, ARB Bull Bar w/tmax 12,500, 315 Nitto, stainless brake lines, Center Diff Lock, Sliders, IPOR Skid, IPOR rear bumper, upgraded slee sticker, custom dents, more to come. . . Ive actually thought about that...I am waiting for Grogan to commision me to build it for him.... We dont do alot of builds normally for two reasons. One, I am out of space (waiting on a 4K addition) and Second I am way critical and slow on how I work...so its diffulcult to find people willing to pay for that level of 4wd work...but they will pay for street rod /streetcar work.Larry __________________ TLCA #17281 FJ45 SWB Project, Aqualu, 6.0 L HO, Fab9's, In Progress 66 FJ40 Project/Parts ? 84 4-Runner, Bone Stock Texas Truck 87 4-Runner, 22RET, SAS, Etc. 05 Ram CTD, BD, ATS Trans "I could have been a chimney sweep....does anyone know where I put that matchbook cover?" |

Ok, here are a few more pics as we start mounting the body mounts.
We Dykem's blued the centerline and clamped up the mount to help find hole centers. __________________ TLCA #17281 FJ45 SWB Project, Aqualu, 6.0 L HO, Fab9's, In Progress 66 FJ40 Project/Parts ? 84 4-Runner, Bone Stock Texas Truck 87 4-Runner, 22RET, SAS, Etc. 05 Ram CTD, BD, ATS Trans "I could have been a chimney sweep....does anyone know where I put that matchbook cover?" |

We are using a center punch w/ a V-block to mark center. The V-block keeps the punch perpindicular to the work face ensuring a 'true' center.

This is a cutter made by 'Uni-bit' that bores super accurate holes. It beats the heck out of using a hole saw which skips all over the place. They are available in quite a few sizes.

Getting ready to tack the sides to the frame. Then we can remove the body and TIG the sleeves to the cab. We then will begin the process of skinning the mounts and TIG'ing the outside of the mounts to the rails.

Did you see how BIG that Suburban Gorilla had to be on Extreme 4x4 to fit the Duramax in it? No thanks, I will take this anyday. Is this your personal rig? Damn, you are getting to spend some awesome time on it. I am very impressed with the attention to detail. What about getting some of the pictures of your model in this thread

I know how big that thing was, we built the axles for that mega beast...that project got waaayyy out of control. The engine is not that big if you take the dual turbo crap off of it.
