I use the FJ60 axles, they are stronger, and a litle wide.
![]() How are these "stronger" than what you took out? They both share the same exact components, but the FJ60 axles are 3" wider. Since you went to all the trouble of the axle swap to gain a measly 3" in width, IMO = timewaster, why not just upgrade to 35 spline D60's w/ Bobby's CV's

![]() You say you have an '84 FJ40 (you sure about that year?) & the axle you removed was smaller (knuckles, steering arm, etc.) than a stock FJ60? '78 - '83 FJ40's have the same front axle as the FJ60's (less 3" on one side of the 60). And, how is the full floater "stronger" than the semi-floater you removed? Don't they have the same shaft dia.? I'd run ARP rear hub studs w/ the cone washers, Locktighted fo sure

'83 was last year for fj40 in the USA, he's in Chilie (the country, not the food) 40's were available for alot longer internationally.
Full float axels are stronger than their semi float counter parts, He only said they were " a little stronger" and they are (tubes carry weight of vehicle not shafts = less stress on shafts, even if they are the same diameter they are under less stress to begin with thus less likely to fail.) and they are probably more plentiful than D60's in his part of the world, possibly explaining his choice. Can't wait to see how the rest of your build progresses, please post pics of your tube fender progress since I want to build some soon and am looking for ideas. __________________ '76 SBC, PS, SR '69 factory soft top '62 basket case |

Full Floater are stronger than semi floater, and if you broke a shaft, you can still have traction on 3 wheels (with lockers). __________________ 1985 TLC FJ60, 2F TBI 1984 TLC FJ40 TSL 16/38.5, 4.88, Full Floater Rear, Powertrax No-Slip, ARB Front. |

flozano - your FJ40 is an inspiration. I like the look of it on 38's. I'm looking to move up from 35's and pics of your rig on 38's is the way I want to go. __________________ 65 FJ40 - Done building and out playing |

First off sweet build man. One thing i would rethink is the rear revolver. They are great on the RTI ramp but for braking and steep downhills they unload and makes things a little interesting. I would invest in some nice springs and set a good shackle angle and skip the revolvers. Just my .02 though. Nice work

I really like the way you did the rear fenders, question for you, do you plan on bracing the rear fender into the frame so that if it takes a hit from a rock it won't distort the fj40 tub? I would think that it would help greatly to have it tied into the frame at 2 places on those rear fenders, thanks! Noah

The rear shocks are ready and installed. The new radiator was arrived today, I need to make some mounts, but fit perfect, is a griffin aluminium radiator. __________________ 1985 TLC FJ60, 2F TBI 1984 TLC FJ40 TSL 16/38.5, 4.88, Full Floater Rear, Powertrax No-Slip, ARB Front. |

interesting, I would have welded a plate on the rear spring hanger, lots of torque on the frame there.
Looks good, can't wait to see more pics, so i can get some ideas of what to do to mine. |
