Just worked on little things.

I finally got my power junction block bolted in. I cut a piece of aluminum as a mounting base. I wanted to clear the accessary wiring off the battery and was planning to add more so this will keep that more orgainized. I picked this up a while ago.

I ditched the zip ties and finally mounted my vacuum regulator for the tranny with a bolt. It's more secure now. I also re-tuned the injection pump. I maxed out the AFC wheel to it's deepest setting (controls fueling when boosting), turned back the smoke screw (adjusts the fuel it sees before boost), bumped the timing (running 15 degrees now), and put a 1/4 turn up on the power screw. It runs a little smoother, boosts more aggressive/stronger, smokes less, and dropped ETGs 50-75F degrees. I'm not into belching black smoke at an intersection even though it'd be nice to smoke screen some of the retards on the road. My wife even said it seemed quieter last night because she didn't hear me until I hit the driveway instead of from around the corner (she must have been distracted).

After removing the air filter shroud I reset my vacuum gauge on the intake tube and have not seen it register so my previous shrouding was too restrictive. I still want to put in a heat barrier between the filter and the turbo but I'll leave this one open on the sides. Since I removed the shroud I wanted to close in the hole I made from shock placement and I made

a rubber boot from the left over cuttings from the mud flaps.

It goes here. I still need to secure it but obviously I'll want it removeable so I can get to the shock bolt.

That should keep the water from splashing onto the air filter.

I stared at the exhaust path underneath for ideas about heat shielding. I also remembered that I still have exhaust wrap so I removed the down pipe and put another layer on it to see how it does, so now my down pipe is double wrapped.

Other stuff:
I picked up some 1/8" plate for the front bumper. We also made it to the beach with the family and got my sister to take her rig out on the sand. Dora's new shoes obviously don't float as well as the PJs but then again I didn't air down either. Now Dora's got sand in all her cracks.

I did front brakes and flushed the brake fluid on the other car. I also redesigned a stronger mount for my trailer jack and welded that on running out of wire just as I finished. On top of that I'm playing with a Linux OS on a spare computer I have around and am hoping to get that worked out so I can use that to edit my videos. It was a busy couple of days.

Definately a busy couple of days for you! I really like the junction box. I am pretty sure I will be knee deep in a de-smog here this month and like the cleaner looks of that electrical set up. Maybe the smog stuff will get replaced with that!

It's usually that other guy's white 62 that makes it into al the photo shoots. Jeeze you put a big block in a truck and all of a sudden you are a celebrity or something

btw that is not Drew's 40. It is really nice but not his.

BTW...With CaliCruiser's help on Friday, I got the H41/toybox/split case mounted up and bolted in. Waiting for driveshafts and it's mobile.!

No mods this week just useage.

Here are some pics from last week's beach outting.

The other purpose for some tube work is to have a place to hang stuff.

This week we got a load of wood and pretty much maxed out my trailer capcity beyond tire limits. Had to be 4-5000lbs and then a couple hundred more in the back of the rig. I was worried about the trailer tires (leafs still had a little more left) so I kept my max at 50mph even though Dora was willing to pull it faster. I could tell I had a good load behind but the brakes had plenty of power.

Side note:
I've been troubleshooting a video editor (Kdenlive) on my Linux machine I've been trying out. I like the software but am having rendering issues to sort out or I'd have Part 1 of the Rubicon to share. Linux is new to me so I'm going through a learning curve. Soon I hope.

The absolutely most northern beach possible in Oregon. It's just north of Fort Stevens and is right where the Columbia river meets the Pacific ocean. Great for kids and nice to drive out on so you don't have to make 20 trips with all the stuff a family ends up bringing. Shipwreak beach is just down (10 mins) the road and has the remains of a beached ship to play around.

Trying out openSUSE 11.1 and am pretty impressed with it even though it's had a few issues to work out. Same with the Kdenlive video editor. I'm having problems with the mlt package and ffmpeg stuff.

which version are u using and are you getting an error with those packs .. if you already take an apget and update paca after yoru instalation would be interesting see which packs you update ..

SuSe and all linux flavors need to do a lot of work on packs compatibilies .. but since all are made by diferent foolks looks a little complicated ..

Dirtgypsy came over on Monday and we worked on his rear upper shock mounts and slider mounts. We'll be stuffing 12" shocks in the rear (still need to change the lower mount). I keep telling him to cut off the rockers so we can tuck up those sliders but he's a full body guy.

Anyways, I got a little time on Dora the next day. First I cut out some 1/8" plate for the lower part of the front bumper. The corners I put together in two pieces due to a bend that was needed.

I tacked in the pieces to see what it looks like and if I want to change anything. I'll cut the tacks when we do the dimple dies and weld it up afterwards.

I had a plan to make a mount and then Wagongear came out with a nice simple mount. It reuses parts from the old antenna and since I couldn't find mine I went with something else. With the mounting surface sloping in two directions my custom mount was going to take more work than it's worth so I just decided to go with a ball mount so I could adjust the antenna to stick straight up. I "adjusted" the original antenna hole on the passenger side so that the ball mount would be centered and cover up the old hole. Then I drilled the three mounting holes for the ball mount.

Dirtgypsy had an extra ball mount laying around so he gave it to me. I cleaned it up and set it in to see if I got the holes lined up.

I cut out a rubber pad and shaped it to act as a gasket for the mount out of an old spring pad but it turned out too thick so I'll use something else, maybe a bike inner tube.

My splitter to use my CB antenna for my CB and radio showed up. This is the Firestick AR-1A. In the 70-80s they made splitters to use an am/fm antenna for CB use and that turned out bad because the am/fm antenna isn't ment to transmit, only receive. A CB antenna can do both and I only wanted 1 antenna so we see how this does. Antenna and cable should be in any day now.

I had just a little more energy left so I started modding the skid plate so it wouldn't rub on the tcase. It started raining so stopped but I'll finish that part up next week.

I haven't even run a CB yet.

The HAM will have to come later. I've seen radio selectors so I may be able to add that into the system to select between the CB and the HAM in the future. The K40 antenna I bought says it will work with both.

I've done a few in my time.... You really need a winch for that truck if you plan on wheelin any. Oh, & the beadlock rings need to be black & all the tubing should be dark gray. Good to see someone driving a *finished project truck w/a build thread on it. Who knows when mine'll be on the trail
