They won't work for ME without spacers because of my rear disc setup. The fronts would probably clear. If you stay drums or go a different route for rear discs then no spacers are probably necessary.

I didn't think it looked like it would clear the runner calipers you have in front either. If so, it would be real close.

Again those are 4runner calipers so they are little more portly. There is that guy in hawaii running these on a 60 in the 60's section that didn't need spacers I thought.

Thanks guys, I'll be putting the rims together today and plan to weigh out each piece to see how heavy it all is. Center paint turned out fine but the outer half is not so nice. It'll be good a 15'.

Clint, you'll be attending CTW? If you can winch post up on the local board. We're still wanting to camp on the coast so hopefully we can set something up. I also need to get you a copy of the Rubicon pics and vids.

Man oh man I wanted to do CTW. I know we need winch points but it was official as of last week that my brother-in-law lost his job and will be moving to Hermiston to start a new one. Unfortunately it is the same weekend as CTW. Family is more important than a winch point. So we will be helping them move starting that friday.

Hit me up mid Sept when you get a free day!

weekly update

I gathered all my wheel stuff together to put them together.



I had access to a band saw so I cut off the rubber humps on the runflats.



That saved me almost 18lbs per wheel!



I was interested in the weigh gain so I started weighing a few things. This is the back half of the rim and weighs in at 31 lbs with pressed centers welded in.



The front half weighs in at 19 lbs with the half rings welded on.



The military wranglers weigh in at 81 lbs.



To install the inserts for the bead lock I found the best way for me was to push/pry in the two halfs one going up and the other going down. Then I'd work them together at the bottom of the tire mostly using a long screwdriver.



Orientation of the two pieces is important. The hump piece goes with the shoulder to the inner bead, the flat piece has arrows on it to show which side goes to the outer bead. The flat piece is grooved for air flow from the valve. The groove perpendicular is important to line up with the valve on the front half of the rim. Just set this piece centered between two studs when putting it on the rim and then place the front half with the valve lined up to that groove.



After some beating, prying, and language my kids shouldn't hear I got all the inserts lined up. One of the tires was greased inside but I found that didn't help because it would just slip out of spot.



This is where the o-ring goes on the 12bolts. I lubed it with a light coating of grease so that as the front half bolts down it will slip it into that groove. I also stretched them a little to sit in the groove better.



I ended up using some WD-40 to spray the rims and the inside of the tires to make mounting them easier. I used the bucket on one of them and then just put the rest together on the ground. Since these are only 12.50 wide tires I was able to get away with that. I could see the bucket coming in handy for wider tires though. Here some quick shots on Dora.



It kind of gives Dora a baja flavor I think. Not bad but I'll start saving up for some bigger meats since they look really small to me.



Drove on the hwy today and while they are quieter they are not any smoother than the PJs (the other three PJs ran pretty true). I can probably get away with a little less toe-in too. I'm going to get these balanced since I'm not worried about the tire slipping on the rim anymore rendering a balance job useless. She did get some weigh gain. Total weight for my aluminum rims and PJs was 100lbs a piece. Total weight for the recentered, rock-ringed, hump cut 2 piece rubber bead locks, running military goodyears came out to 140lbs a piece. So I gained 80 lbs per axle. Can't wait to air these suckers down to single digits.

Yep-really nice job and the size looks fine to me. I think you are kind of at the limit for Cruiser axles anyway.

The PJs were 38s. The pitbulls I like come in a 39" flavor. I wanted to change my rim size and get beadlocks so that was the cause of my tire change. Budget allowed me to get my rims set up how I wanted but wasn't enough to swing the meats I wanted so I compromised. All of this got thrown into gear when we blew one of the PJs on the hwy so instead of buying another PJ I spent more money .

Me too, I might get a chance to try them out on the beach this weekend since we didn't make it last weekend. Should be faster to deflate and inflate since there's not as much volume as the wider 38s. I think I'll run them in the mud to see if they even try to clean out before I groove them then maybe I'll get a better idea of where to remove some rubber cause I'm drawing a blank lately on how I should cut them. The lugs are smaller so cutting them in half may not increase anything; even thinking of removing parts of some of the lugs. Regardless of the grooving they'll definitely get siped.

Man, I'd love to get some more time out on the rigs but my schedule is pretty full for a bit... I'm going to the UFC fight this weekend at the rose garden, Detroit next week for work, then home for labor day, then taking off for Ireland on the 16th for work for 10days... I guess I won't be asking if you're available next week for some dimple die time. Never an end to projects so I'll just shift over to something else. I still need to redo a lower coolant intake port, wire up the CB, wire up the second fan for the radiator, trim up interior rear quarter panels, reshape corners of rear bumper and paint it SILVER , etc, etc...
