The work's going on!
Today I brought the axle back to my garage and I put it under the car; tomorrow I'm going to take the measurements to put it in the right position. Here some pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

Good morning everybody!
I've got an important question: I found out these coilovers (http://www.milneroffroad.com/FOXPRICE2.HTM) by FOX and I wanted to know from you something about them: are they a good product? I saw that the have a lo0t of versions, wich is the best, considering also the price? Is there much difference between the ones with remote reservoir and the ones without it? ![]() Thanx for your help!! ![]() Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

One more thing: what do you thing about the Air Shock? It works without the coil becouse it has an air spring, adjustable from 75 to 400 psi; It has a little bit less travel (4" less then the coilovers) but seems to be a good choice. Adding to that, the price is very low.
Is this preferable to the coilover or I should forget it...? Francesco P.S. talking about the coilovers, seems that the coil spring is NOT included, isn't it? Please, forgive me for all these questions!!

I've got some beig news about the job.
I went on with the works on the rear axle: I made the attachemnts for the upper bars, here there are a couple of pics, wht do you think about them? ![]() ![]() Further (most of all!) I finally received the air shocks by Radflo: ![]() Now I'm beginning to think about possible solutions for the shocks' link; here it is a veeeery simple drawing of one possibility: ![]() Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

In the front you realyl want to support the frame side shock mounts to each other. Makes for a much stronger setup..

Ok, that's what I tought, we call it "dome bar".
In effect I've had this idea also before, but I was not so sure about it; if you say that it hasn't any consequence for the rest of car I will built it. Talking to the friend who's helping me with the solderings, he suggestd me to make something like that: ![]() The drawing referes to the driver's side, where I have the driving shaft exactly where I should put the shock's support (on the passenger's side there is nothing so I don't have any space problem). Do you think it would be fine? Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

Another alternative is to look for a different power steering box. You might have better luck with FJ60 box. Or Hilux / minitruck. I think both of those are face of frame mounted and the stem is locaded behind the shock tower above the frame.
2 steps forward and one back, but I think you will like the end result better. Good luck. Andy __________________ 1973 FJ40 - So far: V8, SM465, Scout PS, SR, SOA, 55 springs, 4WDB, Painless, Revolvers, 37's, Still to come: Cage, ARBs, Orion |

Thanks Awp, but I troubled enought with power steering! This Blazer's steering works fine, I think I'll keep it.

I am doing the same thing to my 40 with 80 axles. I am running a wishbone 4 link in the rear and a 3 link with a hardpan bar in the front. I just got the links all tacked in and waiting on my coilovers. I am trying to get a couple of pics on here but i cant get them to upload.

Pretty cool mounts for your rear uppers at the frame. Allows you to play with your anti-squat. Good idea...
![]() The front definatly looks tricky with the steering shaft in the way. I must agree with the others, it may save time to relocate it now instead of building around it. By the time you build around it you may find it still interferes... __________________ '67 FJ40 w/ 35's , ARB's, and chevy350 '02 TJ on 31" MT/R's - DD '93 Yamaha FZR600 - another toy |

his rear upper mounts do look good at the frame, I think I might have to change mine to do the same. I did raise the links off of my pumpkin quite a bit higher though to try and get a little down slope towards the front with the rear uppers for better road use.

After some days of rest I'm going on with my work.
You must help me to take a decision about the way to build the links for the front axle's shoks. These are the two options: ![]() ![]() The first one seems to be stronger, but is certanly much more heavy and needs more iron and more weldings. The second one should be better, but I would avoid the bridge between the two shoks if it's possible and I don't know if it will be strong enought (remember that I don't have any spring but air shocks, so these pieces will hold the all car). So, I've still got a doubt (as usual...)! Suggestions...???? Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

Here I am again; in these days I studied a front shocks' link consitsing in a bent "U" iron bar:
Obviously the weldings are just temporary, they will be much stronger and well done. This is the link put on the car: seems that everything stays on its place. ![]() ![]() What do you thing about this solution? Considering that I'll put several renforcements to the structure, do you think it will be strong enought? Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |

If you are unable to tie the 2 shock mounts together with a "dome bar" I would suggest running the mount down the side and top of the frame, spreading the load over a larger area.

That's what I hope to do; the problem is that on the driver's side the room is not much but I would attack the link to the upper and the lateral surface of the frame as you suggest.
In a few days I will prepare a better version of the link and I'll study the definitive attachments and I'll show it you.. Francesco __________________ 1972 Fj 40 - 1992 Hzj 73 |
