I showed my wife the pictures of that shifter setup and she recongnized the 60 and thought that is what I wanted to use it for. I think I'm banned from the garage for a while.

Anyway, damn nice work. What are you putting on for a diff cover? What are long term plans for the steering linkage? Any hydro in the future?

Update!

I finally got around to just about finishing the 60. I ran all new brakelines (close to 50') & relocated the Wilwood proportioning valve. Installed the Highangle 1-ton CV drive lines. Put the steering all together. Finished building the Hummer beadlocks with rockrings. Below are the pics with some descriptions:

I misunderstood when I ordered the rockrings from GLO and ended up with thier "mudrings". Instead of dealing with getting a new set I went ahead and welded them on. I'm not too fond of the looks of any style of rockrings so I guess these do not look too bad. They are painted with a copper colored Hammered paint. I definatley need bigger tires. I see a set of 39.5 tsl's in my future. The 36" Goodyears were practically free so I'll groove them & run them for awhile. Great for burnouts too! the paint looks much brighter in the sun.

Slightly wider maybe 10" overall.

Definately need some 39's. I plan on adding the Lebra 3.5" universal fender flares as well as some tubing hoops going from the bumpers to the sliders. Not sure on the design for those yet.

Haven't mounted the shocks yet... definately need bigger tires!

The GLO diff cover was soo pretty that I decided to clearcoat it with clear ceramic engine enamel. I really like how it turned out. Who ever they had weld it was a freekin artist with a mig! Anyone have a set of 39.5's to donate to the cause... Mace???

Purty 1-ton shaft, tucked WAY up as well as the new Flowmaster & Magnaflow. the exhuast guy did one hell of a job. Think a set of 42's would fit?

Front CV turned out beautifully & with the high pinion its really out of the way. I'm pretty happy with the crossmember. Hopefully it will be strong enough since the 203/205 combo weights about 250lbs. I'll be building a full skid plate soon. I think I may try some 42's

Steering is my biggest peve with this build. it works good but it is VERY exposed. I may be grafting on some older kingpin knuckles or getting some Solid Axles (formerly Rockcrusher???), high steer ball joint knucles. Either way I'm looking at $1400-1800 to redo it all. The outboarding turned out well. 42's might rub on the springs.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. It drives great (only had it up to 40mph) & the double low is LOW, especially with the 700r4. The rebuilt trans runs great & is very tight! I'm very happy with the brakes (still need some attention but work better than the old 4runner/ Eldo brakes). I still have a bunch of small stuff to do but it will be driveable once I get the shock mounts sorted out.

Tapage,

Thanks for the compliment.

The angle would have been too great with a standard driveshaft & would have vibrated like crazy. The CV eliminates that. the axle is also slightly off-center & the cv helps with that also. They are very tough shafts (about 40lbs each) & have 1350 cv with a 1410 @ the rear axle & 1350 @ the front. I bought them used & had them re-tubed, but new they would have been about $1300. I could have gotten away with a standard shaft in the front but it would have vibrated in 4wd.

I need bigger tires!

A rear CV would fix that vibration problem. My 60 with a short 4-speed & spring over had no rear vibes. My 60 with the 700r4 7 split t-case, Spring over had a bad vibration. A CV fixed that. I used one out of a mid 80's mini-truck. Very common, cheap & pretty strong. You should have no problem finding one in Panama, look at front shafts on 80's-90's toyota trucks & 4runners.
