Angry Big Truck Rookie! Help w 1978 K5 Blazer

Hey people,

Just bought a 1978 K5 Blazer from an owner who had passed away. Wife had no info for me and all I know is that it has a 6 inch lift, 350, a 400 B&M tranny, with 35s on it. After replacing the plugs, transmission filter, and tinkering with a few other things, it is running!! But, when you smash the throttle it falls on its face (completely Bogs out) and when im takin it up a incline just trail riding it does the same but dies! Im thinkin carb problems but have no idea.....im very new at this and need help. Without knowing gears ratio, and what size carb I have on there, where should I start in making this a decent hunting rig! After looking at carbs...there is Edle, Holly, Motorcrat, Q-Jet....everyone has a different opinion. as a newbie to this whats the advice I can get to this thing to runnin uphill and thru the mud sideways......

A few pics re carb would help.
IF what's on the motor is a Q-Jet, problem #1 could be a disintegrated accelerator pump gasket, or the secondaries opening too soon. Do you get a black cloud of exhaust once it recovers (i.e. too much fuel = secondaries)? Problem #2 could be because the float is set too low - again, how is the exhaust once you start her up again?. IF it's a Q-Jet, both are easy fixes with a carb rebuild kit, and can be done with only the airhorn off the carb.
