| Dawsonville Workday Feb 20th--Durhamtown moved to March Title says it all. Durhamtown has been bumped to March 20th
Ralph is having a workday on Feb 20th and we're invited to help out. Bring your Shovels, chainsaws and work gloves. Be prepared to spend a little time cleaning up the property that we have the privilege to ride.
We'll get the opportunity to ride the trails later in the day when the list of chores has been knocked out. thanks

~jeff | Not at all, wanted very badly to wheel with those guys. in fact, thinking of trying to pull together a tri-club casual event with them in the near future.
We have access to a guy's piece of private property and he's requested our assistance that weekend to help clean up the property. Since it's a privilege for us to wheel there we need to honor his request, so that's what we're going to do.

| As Ted mentioned Ralph is having a work day on February 20th to prepare the property for a March 13th fund raising event and the upcoming wheeling season.
As you enter the main gate, much of the section on your right has been cleared away. For those who were at the Annual Event, parts of this section were used for the time trial driving event.
Ralph would like to focus on continuing to clear that area, though I am not sure what his exact plans are for that space once cleared.
He has asked for chainsaws if you have them, along with axes, loppers, etc. We will not be cutting grass, weed eating, etc., as its too early in the season for that.
Some other tasks that can be done by people who dont have or want to use a saw:
Trees, cut and stack. I will have the loader to move piles and burn.
Fire-wood, split and stack.
With loppers, limb up trees.
With axes, cut vines going up trees. Especially poison ivy and kudzu.
We may also do some work around the camping and pavillion areas.
As always bring work clothes, gloves and food/drink/snack and plan on working for a good portion of the day. There will always be time for some wheeling, but the property is currently very wet and more wet weather is forecast for February so keep that in mind as well.
This work day will be open to several clubs, not just ours. Ralph has always been good about letting us use this property because we do a lot to help him maintain it.
Thanks in advance for your help. Please PM me, Ted, Josh, etc if you need directions.
Thanks

| Hey Ben--If you're gonna make it to Dawsonville this weekend bring that drag link along with you. I may buy it from you if it's still available, what do you want for it?

| Is there any particular time we should try to target to get there?
And don't tell me to be there at 7 am if everyone else will get there at noon!

| Ralph says 8am, but I dont expect anyone to really be there that early. I would say 9-930 is fine. This is an email that I just got from him.
Hi Everybody,
I am almost afraid to say it, but it looks like the weather will hold for this week-end. I was up there to look around and see what should be done and it looks fine. The ground is wet, but not sloppy muddy. With clear weather this week and high winds, that will help out.
We are going to start a large fire Friday, on the other side of the lake. We have built a new road on that side and there is a need to clean on that side. We will have three big machines plus a tractor available. Saturday we will start a second fire closer to the entrance.
I was thinking about lunch. I don’t have a headcount so it is hard for me to prepare lunch but we will have plenty of fires, meaning it would be excellent to grill hot dogs. By mid morning I might get a head count and go get hot-dogs.
Personally I am looking forward to get out and get some dry fresh air and see everybody again. |

For most this will not mean anything but for stockrunner it should hold a special place in his heart, his very first trail rash

| Hope it is drier when y'all go out to Durhamtown. We had a mucky mess waiting for us that weekend and they didn't have any rain for a week. Those red clay mud holes just don't dry up fast. I recommend a winch vehicle every other or every third in your group, since not much room to go around someone who is stuck.
This was only a few hundred feet into the first trail...and yes those are my swampers that look like slicks. Steering is merely a suggestion on most of the trails we found ourselves on...kind of like slot car racing.
Had more fun in Zone 3 than anywhere else. Zones 1 and 2 were like above pics.
Zone 4 was pretty much closed at the time and Zone 5 was pretty bad too. Heavy ruts and all filled with sloppy mess. Everybody either winched up or backtracked from this mud bowl at the beginning of 5. |
