Alright folks, we're getting close to the point that we're gonna start needing parts. I expect within the week or two we will have a truck that needs the finer touches so if you have parts or pledged parts we'd sure appreciate them coming in soon.
As Heather stated above, we need some of the less sexy stuff like belts, hoses and marker light gaskets. The list doesn't stop there but its a good start.
thanks,

Sexy stuff.
Michael when will you be doing the swap? I'd love to volunteer to help, cause sooner or later I'll be doing the same to my FJ62 and any experience will be helpful. Just let me know .

That would be outstanding. I've got a T-case rebuild kit I could donate if it will help things along.

I have about all of these parts, fairly new or in good condition, from a '76-'78 FJ40. I'll bring them down, along w/ the rear bumper & the grill guard this Saturday. Also have cable for the donated winch if it's not equipped
|
Will these work on the 62? I'd like to update the list of parts and if these are good to go, I'll take them off and move them to the "have" section!

Rick Arflin at Ralph Hayes Toyota in Anderson, SC has pledged to donate a power steering pump and maybe another part or two off the list. In addition, just for this truck, he's agreed to give us an EXTRA SPECIAL DEAL off any parts that we need to buy.
And as a reminder, for anyone in GA Cruisers, call Rick (1-800-868-8066) for your parts and he'll give you 25% off all parts and he'll ship them right to your door. Rick has been wonderful to me with the restoration of my pig. He's knowledgeable in all LC years and he's really good at looking out for you.
A few months ago I called him for some parts for the pig. They were little things, but I asked if he'd just run through the computer and see what was still available for the truck from Toyota. He noticed that the brake cylinders were still available but the stockpile was low. He suggested that I get a set because they'd be gone in no time. I got my 25% off and he shipped them to my door. Not a week or two later, they were no longer available. That's the kind of customer service you can expect from Rick and Ralph Hayes!

Ben,
I think the plan is for us to pull the trans and case and then you can come by one Saturday (11th or 18th) and watch / help me rebuild the case onto the new trans.
A rebuild kit would definitely be appreciated (note: it will need to be a large Idler Shaft FJ62 kit) and we will just need it when you come to help with the T-case rebuild.

It is a rebuild kit for a FJ62 Transfer case so we should be good. I can't make it on the 11th but the 18th sounds like a winner just let me know what time you'll be at the shop and I'll be there .

Many Thanks to Rising Sun
Rising Sun out of the Denver area has committed $1000 in donation and ticket sales towards the FJ62.
Many of you know, they put together a kick ass FJ62 to benefit land use in their area. Here is the link to their truck: Rising Sun Toyota 4x4 Club. Furthermore, it was won by a "local" Josh (who posted up early in this thead) in SC.
I've attended a Rising Sun meeting and I gotta tell ya, these folks are a class act. They let me speak a bit about what is going on at Tellico and then made a donation to Rescue Tellico. Now, they are stepping up again.
From all of us out here in the east, thanks to Rising Sun!

I've got an '89 FJ62 that I'm fixing to part out once I pull the motor and axles. I'll look it over and see what it has that you might need.

That's great, thanks. Right now we need some of the smaller stuff like the rubber gaskets around the marker lights. also the main dash panel where the radio goes. I'll post a pic or two but the best way is to consult the list in the first post. thanks again

So the old trans and case had about completely destroyed the splines on the trans output shaft and gear so we weren't able to get everything reassembled on Saturday. No big deal because the shaft on the new trans was perfect so all we had to do was give Toyota a call and we had a new $200 gear by Wednesday. Either way I got everything reassembled last night and it is all ready to go back in the 62.
Also a big thanks to Ben for donating the rebuild kit as well as his time on Saturday to help with the disassembley and cleaning.

Michael, Brian--You guys rock! Thanks for all the help and a hand to Ben as well. We're really looking forward to getting going on this truck to add the "bling" factor.
Larry-Work has kept me busy as well so I've not been able to give this the attention it needs the last few weeks. I'll certainly let you know about the door in the very near future.
