Nov. 11-12 Alpha Pit

The elder WPB guys had the breakfast meeting this morning and decided Nov. 11-12 works well for us to meet at A-pit. How's that date work for everyone else??

Those of us who trailer our rigs up will need to make arrangements with the truck stop manager to keep our tow vehicles/trailers there overnight. I don't suspect that will be a problem, as I cleared our trucks/trailers with him at the last run, and he was cool.

Alpha Nov 11 & 12

I am im for the trip on this date, plus in for camping at the pit.

I will make sure I get some heavy duty Mosquito repellent for the pit. I have a feeling they might be kind of big near that water.

I would not doubt it. LWB is the key on that spot....thats why having just a rear locker did not cut it. I am thinking when I come back with a front locker I will have better or much worse luck (explodo birfo... ) either way it will be fun....I would like to see ya dent the 80 anyways

Night Runs

Yep, I think we were all in agreement on running knucklebuster at night.

Al - unless you know more than we do, it might be best to keep this low key. I had heard of this place about 3 years back, but never believed it was as good as when I first saw it - bit nervous that overadvertising or abuse might result in a loss of access?

As to trailering - I used to drive up to the Ocala NF, Oklawaha and Orlando a bunch, and man it got to be a bear. Jim probably remembers when we drove back from North Florida in a driving near freezing rain, and the only thing on the 40 was a bikini top - that did it for me.....

If anyone wants to run trail network in the Ocala NF let me know - I've got a bunch of the 7.5 minute topos from when a bunch of us in the FLCA ran almost every marked "jeep" trail in the northern half - lots of kool places to see.

Bill.

Bill.
What do ya mean about the know more then we do thing?

I only tryed to get cruiserheads together to ride nothin more...when you guys came last time it was a fluke normally only 2 to 3 trucks show up and it ends up only one other truck will wheel besides me. So, I am sure it will go back to being a small group thing...the only place I post is here and FLCA.org....

And for this go around It would be better if the kinda of trucks leaning towards hard core only show up....

Also I never tell anyone where it is..they have to show up to see where its at, and I kinda hint at not telling to many other folks where its at.

More than anything I was just trying to get FLCA more active than it is. I am only trying to work towards somthing better...and good times

Holy Horse Puckee Batman

Whoaaaaaa, settle down there pardner - I think you misinterpreted my comment just a bit . I'm not talking anything about not telling people, or limiting how many can come, who can wheel, who can camp, etc. For all intents and purposes I never would have come if not for the kick in the arse, and quite frankly I will most likely always feel like a guest to those who were there first.

I'm just wondering who owns/oversees the place and whether or not camping might not result in a little visit from the law? I don't mind getting kicked out of a place, but I'd be downright ornery if I got woke up in the middle of the night and told to pack up. That's what I mean by whether or not you know more about the place?

Let me know if this makes any sense.

I got you now...

I thought you were telling me I was over advertising the place, when all I was trying to do was bring cruiserheads together...

As for who owns it..Trace Said the people that owned it could not pay there back taxes and the goverment seized the land and its in limbo or somthing or other...

Jim said He wanted to camp there and I was def. game for that...But if everyone isnt down with the idea we can just camp at Olkhanweaneeahaaa agian. We can still have night runs and breakfast followed by more wheeling...

Sooo... lets hear some input on who wants to camp where? I dont really care either way...

I agree with Jim though if we keep a small group we will more than likey be fine camping out..

Let me know what you guys wanna do...

-Al

Hopefully, it will be cooler and the skeeters will have gone south.......

Al - You need to clarify that the first to break a birfield and cook eggs, includes inner axle shafts. That would allow Jim to be included in the fun

Howley's Breakfast

Almost forgot - BIG THANKS to Martin for using his gift certificate to cover breakfast . Now that I know you used to work there I understand why you were so quick to choose it as a meeting place - awesome decor and food - I usually go about twice a month on the weekends - so that'd be a great place for future meetings as well...

It was my pleasure for the breakfast, kind of payment for the help you and Jim gave me on my '40.

Yea! ditto what Bill said.

Martin, if you break a birf first, I'll cook the eggs for you. That way, Bill and Al can change-out your broken birfield.

Lightbulb My Birfs

If we can find me some tires by then I would be glad to try it, even without lockers!
That's a sure break there.

Bill, this sounds enticing. Thoughts on when we could do this ...anyone? BTW, I got rained on heading home in the open top 40 and its quite refreshing

Ocala NF Trails

Chuck,

I don't think have the time to go run these trails on the 12th, but I'd be happy to bring my maps up to Alpha. It'd be helpful if you went ahead and got a FS trail map. They don't show all the jeep trails, but I can show you how to mark em up. The whole network is pretty simple as most of the bigger trails run on section lines (one mile square) and you can almost count your mileage on em.

Other than that - I'm sure a bunch of the FLCA folk doing the Thanksgiving weekend campout at Oklawaha would be up for running the Ocala NF trail network.

Let me know.

Bill.

Gonna Try Once More! Gotta go Wheel!!!

Al and others...this is Chad from good ole polk again. I've seen the posts on alpha and am down with camping there for the night. I am going to TRY ONCE AGAIN to make it there, as even my wife is anxious to go wheeling! I've been prevented the last 1000 times yall have visited the pit due to revonations on my fJ62. Now, all that's left is the brakes! The engine is running great, but the cruiser dont stop. As i write, the drum brakes are dissassembled and awaiting new shoes & cylinders. The discs up front will remain. If not, i;'ll at least come out in my new FJ80. Well, not new, but it's a 92 i just purchased. Doing some electrical maintenance as the electrical system in it is crap. Seeing how there's a month between now and the run, i figure count me in! Can't wait to see this great area that Al and Trace get stuck in all the time. lol...looking forward to a good time.
Chad

Time to get the FJ40 out of the garage...

Sorry that Sandy and I didn't stay long - it was just too hot and I had to get home and pack for a business trip anyway. It was fun just to watch everyone attempt knucklebuster. I was surprised to see the amount of water down in the pit - the watertable must be coming up.

I'm going to plan for the November trip - maybe try to drive the FJ40 this time. It still needs a little tweaking since I haven't driven it much since the 2004 GSMTR and then buying the FJ80 and focusing on it.

Should be fun.

Eric

Eric,
I was hoping you were all right last Alpha run... I dint see much of ya and the 80. I was thinking that ya might have scared the wife or somthing , She seemed cool about the dents though

I hope ya make the run and it would be cool to see your 40, But i'll be missin the 80 series. We will have to talk 80's then becuase I got some tricks up my sleeve on the new 80 that ya might want to try out...You'll have to show to see my locked front go thru some birfs....wahoo...

later brotha....

-Al

Heh, heh, heh Guess this means you got a locker in - very kool. I'm going to dig out a pair of fog lights I won at a GSMTR raffle a few years back and get the 40 set up for Friday night. Only other thing I need is for Jim to show me the weld rebar on the wheel locks removal trick so I don't have to worry about taking wheels off for repairs this trip.

Buoyweather's showing ground/wind swell this weekend in the 7' plus range . Hopefully it pans out.

Bill, Told AL earlier, me and my 3 surfettes are heading to Cocoa Friday AM for the weekend. They gave me the same report. That's why we're heading up the coast.

I heard that swell on Sat. morning was a big fluke and surprised everyone - stoked you caught it.

This has been the best year I can remember in ages for solid swell and offshore days....
