Surf
St. Auggie pic someone e-mailed me from last weekend - I think it was lifted from Blue Sky website. Unfortunately looks like we're going to get more wind than originally predicted - not looking too good for tomorrow - that and high tide first light - bummer...

Also - I've tripped a few places and seen some decent size surf, but I can honestly say that the swell we had last month peaked out at well over 3 time size with good side and offshores... First time I'd pulled my 6'8" pintail out in almost 2 years.

Surf is chest to head down here with a bit too much wind - still some fun waves on the north end of Palm Beach. Nice lines rolling in, winds supposed to die down tomorrow.
I'd be happy to share my stove and Deluxe pan - but if you think I've got the setup wait till Captian "Cook" Jim gets his wares out - freaking traveling salesman. I'll be doing eggs, omelettes and pancakes again.

Another great day of surf...super glass and head high. I cant believe it......next weekend front locker install and hand throttle hook up for Alpha....wahooo.
Any of you WPB beachers know of a used set of 38 super swampers someone has lying around. 35s are too tiny...
Stoked to see you all again..

Why stop at 38's? Ask Jim to check with Barry - seems that either of those 2 always seem to have an extra set of tires in some phase of trade between them...
Surf was bombing on Sunday. Some were calling it 6' to 8' - winds died down enough to make for some sweeeeet lines. Tons of whitewater to keep the crowds down Heard about a shark bite incident at my favorite Palm Beach spot (before I paddled out) and when Laura and I got home one of the neighbors is sitting outside with his feet propped up all wrapped in massive bandages - doh! Small world. He got it on both feet pretty good.
Man, this has been the best year in ages for surf.

Surfed Cocoa on friday-sat-sunday. Rainy, overcast and windy on froday. Ahout chest to head high. Improved on saturday and sunday with less wind. Kids had fun. Youngest daughter bought a new 5-10 Quiet Flight. Spent most of Sat. watching college football and drinking beer. Nice place. We'll probably go there again at thanksgiving, if we don't do SC.
I'll check with Barry about any tires he may have for sale. I am keeping mine. I agree with Bill, if you get 38's, you'll soon want 40's.

Trailer rigs at the truck stop? Is there no room to keep the Truck and trailer out there at the pit? Just wondering, cuz i'll be bringing my 62 on trailer behind my Dodge this time...don't wanna burn another alternator out on the way back home this time. Just wondering the details.
Thanks,
Urban Trail Serier Cruisers

eeekk....a cation for the dudes who went last time...
installed the front locker today to find rust on the new ring&pinion.....water was in the 90wt since the trip and cause some rust :( .....it would worth it to crack the inspection plate or drain the 90wt on the 3rds...
it took some time with a tooth brush cleaning it up...

Al,
Are your axle vents extended up high to be out of the water? The rust is only on the surface and you should be fine, even if you didn't wire brush it.
Now go surfing..........

I extended the diff breathers a couple days ago on the 40... prompted by trolling through (and temporarily anchoring) the waterways in bottom of pit. Didn't have any water in there fortunately. Good luck.

I have them all the way up to the engine bay with filters on them....even though seals dont leak, water is thinner than 90wt so it can get in where 90wt can't get out...
Jim,
I would go surfing but there is no waves :( Can't wait to wheel Velveeta fully locked wahoooo
see you guys soon.

Hey guys...
It seems that not everyone wants to camp right at Alpha...I think it would be best to just camp at Olkahwawaaee and just drive down for a night run and following up the next morning with some runs to the rock garden we never found. Unless you guys want to camp right at Alpha...i am game for whatever...

Re. camping spot... anyone have strong feelings for/against one location vs the other? If we can get these thoughts posted up it might help the decision along.

For Alpha: It’s a cool spot. Less trips driving back and forth to Oklawahaha campgrounds. Less confusion picking time, meeting place and getting people together for a night run. Closer to fast food. The $16 saved on camping fee can buy a case of beer
For Oklawaha: Electricity, bathrooms and a safe place to park a trailer.
I guess I’m just stating the obvious. No real strong feelings.

We could sleep in the trucks with our hands on the wheel and if they show up, start the trucks and head up roll over.....no way they would catch us
well inless they got out and walked

That's a good idea. We could also chain off the entrances after we enter so no one else can get in...
Anyone have some insight on the potential for getting harrassed? ie, camped there before.

On the camping issue, i prefer to stay at Alpha pit. Now, i am a 1st timer so yall may consider my opinion worthless, but i do not like wasting gas and time going from place to place. I saw someone say there is no room for a truck/trailer there, but my two truck is also a capable 4X4, so i personally don't have any issues getting in somewhere and out. It's believable that maybe there's not enough room for multiple truck/trailer combos, but how many are towing their rigs? Official headcount is needed...seems most are driving their rigs straight there. Let's get an attendance list together.
We're coming by way of truck/trailer.

Oh yeah, chain idea aint bad either. I have about 50+ft in anyone wants to bring some more and some hefty locks, plus a "no trespassing" sign for added validation. lol. then we can block off the area to any followers. Just a thought.

Open to one or the other - I'll go with majority rules here. Any chance anyone in the Ocala area might be able to check around on any local campsites? Not quite snowbird season yet, and I'm sure there's several campgrounds around that would allow for trailer parking, etc.
As to tow vehicle/trailer access - it's not that it's a hard drive to get in, there's just too damn many twisty turns in the trees to even consider trailering something in. Parking out front would just attract attention. Either park at truckstop, camp at Oklawaha, or find another campsite closer....
