Talk about a beautiful rig! I don't suppose it is any more well travelled now that it's a bit more capable? I'm jealous!

Pete - You're killing me. The dark side is the well known reference to those succumbing to Barry's viewpoint on hacking up Cruisers - Jim was the first to go, I resisted for years, and others like Mike well heck, they were born that way. Stopped by Barry's shop Saturday - Ugly Boy is looking uglier than ever .
Driving the 40 today and tomorrow - will have to get a pic while it's over at Renegade Skunkwerks undergoing additional top secret transformation .

ohh noooo. I'm slipping. A couple of days ago I cut two 2.5x2.5 inch holes in my front bumper to fit in two class 3 receiver hitches. Why... to mount an edger engine that has been converted to run an alternator. Why... because my dad gave me his old edger and I don't have anything to edge and I needed a distraction from painting the roll cage. doh!

>two class 3 receiver hitches
mmmmm, one on each side of front bumper.....
....brings to mind a 'monster garage' thing we thought up at one of the richloam runs...
Industrial hedge clippers. mounted vertically left and right of body....
...turn 'em on and head into the woods
.....Pathmaker....
.......keeps the newer rigs from getting trail tattos

Hahahhahaa! That is the funniest mod I've heard about in a long time - deserves a thread of it's own - c'mon post up. You gonna run that thing as a mini camping generator - I got a better idea, what's the cylinder head made of - anything good worth throwing in the fire .

Hey Bill,
Get a couple extra ring/pinions, birfields, injections system and maybe a couple replacement shocks and you'll be ready for Lower 2 next May.
It's really called the dark side because you spend too much time under the cruiser making repairs and looking up at the black undercarrage. Stay in the drivers seat and you too will see there is light on the trail ahead...
If not Lower 2, pick another one...

Yes, this is worthy of ridicule
Not quite jumbo hedge clippers but it may have the potential in the future. The idea is to allow for four class three inserts to support... whatever. Having multiple improves stability by tying them together. I'm thinking about a front brush guard, the GenEdge2000 (I'm not revealing this top secret design because the chinese will start mass producing them), a deck system for placing tools and my rear end, lights, and some other outlandish things. The verticle bars are running through the vert receivers to line things up. They're not permanent.
Jerry, you are starting to sound like Yoda...

Yeah - I've had my joy last year. Still made it up slick rock faster than anyone else ;-) ... well except for the last obstacle (which I walked 3 times the year before). Oh well. Guess I got a pair for wheeling a set up that wasn't finished and new was gonna break - but heck, it was fun. Beat staying home.
Unfortunately I spend less time working on the 40 than I do talking - still spending most of my time renovating the house, and now rebuilding the flats boat...
Nonetheless - I'll see you on Lower 2 next year - you leading or following

You absolutely MUST start a thread on this!!! I cannot begin to fathom where you're going with it, but it looks like fun, or as you say, something worthy of ridicule .

Bill,
If you head out from camp by yourself, you'll probably be there first and lead us all. If you wait until Jim is ready to go, you will follow everyone.
The son and I are going to Texas in March, and on the way back plan to stop in Arkansas at the Superlift park. If we have any truck left for Tellico, we'll be on Lower 2 if we have to pull/push it up the trail.
And you are correct, being there is better than being in Florida driving the roads in the forest.
Jerry D.

Sounds like the start of a bumper-mounted blender. Margaritas anyone?

Blender with that horsepower - heck - I've got a spare 5' cast iron tub - lets mount that puppy up front, get a couple of industrial paint mixer attachments, and an OEM PTO gear housing and we can blend up 50 gallons of high octane enjoyment .

After riding with you up to the top of slickrock, and from what Jim says about how well your 40 ran up skoolbus - It'll be me following you . Looking forward to next year - bummed I can't make the January run - that lodge looks awesome. Take care.

Come on, Jerry, I may be in charge of putting out all the camp lanterns at night, but everyone in our camp will tell you I am always the first to arise. (Kinda sounds biblical, huh?)

Thanks for the clarification Capt.
So that means I'll see you on Lower 2 by 10AM on Wed.
And Bill, you get to follow Jim,
Got any private property down that way with a rock or two on it that we can get permission to wheel on??? JD is talking to a land owner up this way, only time can tell. Then there is always the property we had our annual on.
Jim, put out the lights...
