I see, I think.
My inners are good. I think I'll just make some. I can roll sheet metal. I think I'd be OK with one set from IPOR, though. I don't need it to go all the way out to the end of the fender. I already made the panels on the fenders.

Got a bit distracted with school and work and other people's broken vehicles
I've got the roof about half drilled out. The rear corners cut out and some panels built for the inners. I hope to start blasting it in a couple of weeks.
Mostly I've been distracted by the 67 FJ40. I've been trying to get the engine dropped so I can get it off the hoist.
motor mounts. I <3 my plasma cutter.

Not much to report.
The stripping of the undercoating is going well
I've cut out a lot of rust along the quarters and rear corners. I haven't had a chance to take my little corner piece to the boneyard yet to see if I can't match it up to something.
I did take it to Farm and Fleet and found that a trailer fender is not close.

Getting soda blasted on Monday so I gotta finish up the undercoating and get the roof off this week.
The 40 fired today so it's going on the back burner until the 55 is done.
Anybody want a 67 rust bucket 40? You can take it as is or to any level of done-ness that you want. I've got too many damn projects.

Finished the undercoating as much as I'm gonna do before the sodablasting.
Stripped the doors and tail gate for blasting.
I still have to mask the 1/4 windows. I don't want to try and take them out and risk ruining the unobtanium gaskets.

Nekkid Pig!!
Shes down to bare skin now. Camera batteries died so no 35% pics until tomorrow.
More rust, but nothing terrible and nothing I didn't really expect.
The big surprise was a 6 inch gouge through the sheet metal under a rear window and a caved in quarter.
I'm thinking about some trollhole quarter patches so I don't have to make wheel well flares.

Side gack. I think I can salvage this piece out of the war pig when she goes topless.
The blaster said the bondo was 1/4 thick through here.

Wow... Looks nice and clean there.. You know my philosophy.. Where most of that rusting is 'optional' IMO, chop er out of there...!

5 hours or so. He had a cool rig. Big Grumman panel truck with a tow behind compressor. The compressor ran a 6B Cummins. It was a big mofo
He used coal slag for the underbody and rusty spots and soda for the big flat panels.
I thought about dipping it, but what could I do about the rear quarter window gaskets?

So he came to you to blast???
That's pretty cool. Did he also clean up when he was done?
Why not just dip every thing but the rear doors?
The only down side to a dip is having to get paint back into all the supports that the chemicals could get into but a nossel wont.

Yup. I had a mobile blaster do my 40 too.
He did clean the parking lot when he was done.
The really spendy local dipper ($4000) would e-coat it in a dip tank. I don't think the guy who was gonna just do the tub for $800 up in WI would have done anything like that.

The whole deal was $700.
I was quoted $850 for the pig and a F-100, but when he got there the price went to $1400. "Those were winter prices"

Okay I have followed buckerasou's threads in the 45 section but never asked....
What is epoxy primer and why use it as opposed to standard grey primer?

epoxy primer is really hard. It's used in marine applications. I'm using it as a sealer and an undercoat.
Regular old primer is soft and is used to fill imperfections as well as give a base for the paint to stick to.
I'll use the regular primer over the epoxy when I'm ready to paint. The epoxy will be way to cured by then to be used directly under the topcoat and it's nearly impossible to sand down anyway.
A lot of the hot rod crowd uses it as a top coat. It looks cool as a final color.
