Post The FJ55 Weatherstrip Guide

I've been compiling this list for awhile as I have been "refurbishing" my 55. Following are part numbers, prices, sources, and pics for most of the rubber parts on the Pig. Most parts are identical or very close to factory - while a few were chosen for economics. If I left out anything, please add.....

This is awsome.

I suggest it becomes a sticky.

WOW! You have saved everyone a lot of time and effort. I second the motion to make this a sticky!

I have a question - does the window channel match the orig thickness?

I replaced the DS channel in my 40 w/ some generic channel and the effort required to raise and lower the window is too much. Not rattles, but I am worried about breaking the crank...

Yes - I think the window channel is an "exact" match - as is the the weatherstrip that goes on the door. It even has a pre-moulded 90 degree corner. In JC Whitney catalog it is listed as a 1970's Toyota minitruck w/s and is a perfect match to the original.

Awesome Stuff...I have a question...

This was very helpful...I recently went out and purchased almost everything on your list...My question is how you attached the 'window felts', as the new felts do not have the holes for the clips...I was going to use a two-part epoxy...How did you do it?...

Thx again...

I used the old felt as a guide and drilled holes in the new window felt to match the holes in the door. To attach the felt to the door, order part #11411 from Restoration Specialties (it is on page 101 of their catalog) http://www.restorationspecialties.com/catalog.htm

It is a little tedious, but works quite well.

ok...i think i follow...so do you then 'pull back' the felt itself, drilled the holds, reinserted the 'fasteners' and glued the felt back onto the metal part of the strip, and then fasten it to the door?...
thanks for your help my man...

not quite - Just drill the holes directly through the entire piece. No need to "pull back" the felt itself. The clips from Restoration Specialties then go through the holes you drilled. This is exaclty how they were installed originally. (on mine anyway)

hope this helps.
