window regulator channel rubber update
got a call from wefco; they received the window regulator channel rubber I sent and the quote for a die is 100$; an aproximate cost for ft. of the rubber is 1.40$; they do have a bit of a concern as the sample I sent is very dry and might have shrunk over the years
........another question I have is how many feet will it take to do 4 doors ..the quote for 1.40 is per 100 ft; if we go to 200Ft the price might come down;Lou |

Eric, if yours is pliable..might be better to send a sample to wefco and have them compare it; you might mention that it is the follow up to the piece I sent courtesy of Luke111..........just want to make sure we keep the same quote

Door weatherstripping. Any thoughts on sending them the profile and see what they come up with? Might be a shot in the dark but even if they could just produce the black part that would be a lot of help to most people. __________________ Marshall Upstate Cruisers Toyota part number lookup Click here! Marshall;
just want to make sure we are on the same..... are you talking about the rubber seal on the door or the one on the frame that seals towards the door further?; if it is the part on the door; the one we got from JC whitney works well just have to work with it a bit....the corners are different from the originals as in the replacement there are no corners you just have to fidddle with the strip but eventually it works well; they only make extrusions and will not work with a composite where vulcanizing/bonding is involved eg.the corners ; as to the seals on the frame to the door........the JC whitney stuff is acceptable IMO the SOR is better but a lot more expensive; again; if we are talking about the earlier composite frame to door seal with welting + rubber backing seal; they do not do this kind of work......the later pigs I have seen 78 and 79 did not have the composite frame to door seal; they only had the "welt" similar to the fj60 frame to door seal; have two complete sets I removed from a trashed 78 and a 79 and they are in pretty sdecent shape but do not seal worth a crap; when I first replaced my old ones they were scary tight .......now after they have taken a "set" and a very minor ajustment to the doors when I replaced the worn out hinges they are nice.hthLou |

old tailgate regulator channel rubber
Changed the tailgate window channnel rubber wed- thursday; took out the old crapped out rubber and put in the new on the 74.........wire-brushed the rusty channel and hit it with rustoleum rust converter....had to give it 24 hours drying time and then installed the new stuff
![]() ![]() ![]() it is an incredible difference just how smoothly the glass glides in the grooves and NO more binding........ just a thought after the fact initially tried replacing the old rubber with a strip of inner tube but that did not work after several hours of .....another option we looked out was the rubberized adhesive tape.......but it did not have the "pinch" of the original rubber....... I think the design of the the lips on the rubber are important as they will spill any water rundown OFF the metal part of the channel and hopefully keep it from it rusting out; if the lips were not there then the water will tend to accumulate and if there are cracks then will filter down into the metal channel setting up the rust demon again........think I will go ahead and take a look at the 78s tailgate rubber and change it also if I see any cracking even though it is not binding.........just thinking as I type HTHLou here are a few pix of the old tailgate regulator channel rubber removed thanks again Ige, Luke111, Eric Ellis and Romegadave |

That rubber is DONE!
Lou, that makes my rubber/WS look new. I can't believe that would work at all... I have trimmed the lips off of my orig. rubber in order to make it work, several times over the years. It still works, but only occasionaly. I can't wait to install the new stuff... __________________ 1970 FJ55 Lucy-Trail Pig http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pi...ml#post3162540 1977 FJ55 Lily-Princess Pig http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pi...e-old-pig.html |

Carlos; I think the lips are important to keep the water from running down into the metal channel and rusting it out.........the lips will spill water outwards where it will drain out the tailgate drain vents......just my thoughts on it.......

Yep, I think you're right. I actually had to keep trimming my weatherstrip because every once in a while when it would fail and the window became loose, I would try to reinstall the W/S and it would fold and eventually crease and then deteriorate and then fail again, etc...:(

rear window channel "metal"
while you have the window channel out you might want to wirebrush it and hit it with some kind of rust preventer.....my channel was very rusted and thin

Pardon my ignorance.
First off, I have installed the listed JC Whitney weather stripping on the doors of my '78 and find it to be perfect. Thanks for all the research you guys have done. Now for the tailgate...... Is Slocruisers' items the way to go? I've read about PV Cruisers having stuff, too. Any links? Also, anyone know what would work for the later model tail light gaskets? Thanks again for all the help, guys. (and gals) __________________ Bogus One - '78 Pig with some gadgets, the usual rust & rock rash. As for the signals...don't know. Have a pc from a hilux I thought I would goof around with and try. Last edited by Eric Ellis; 08-03-08 at 02:22 PM. |

Naw......Carlos wasn't padding...........just brain dead at a quarter to one in the morning after working a double and hitting send twice as Eric noticed......first was the one I meant to post; second was the base note and when I backed must have sent the unfinished one second
will go ahead and delete.........but the question remains; has anyone heard from John at Slocruisers recently?.......heard he was working on the rear door fixed window rubbers but that was several months ago![]() Lou |

Any news of a rear fixed window rubber?
Also, has anyone tried ordering the JC whitney on the door? Driver/ JC Whitney/ $17/ ZX813688A/ 10 ft Passenger/ JC Whitney/ $17/ ZX813689B/ 10 ft The first doesn't show up unless I add a 9 before the A. But then when all is said and done, both show up as the same part number: ZX813689R *confused* I need to go through the doors before the rains come
