New dashpads??

I have seen people mention that dashpads could be bought new from somewhere. I see that SOR has them for the later model piggies, but mine was manufactured 11/71. Anyone know anything about this? Mine is too cracked.

Mark's Offroad (65swb45) has moulded caps that you can glue over your current dash - good as new

There was someone on the Pig mailing list that had found some, I thought I saved the link, but I can't find it now.

I also have the link from the registry, but I won't be able to access my computer until tomorrow. They came in multiple colors and were inexpenive, around $60. The same dash cap is used for all models, the difference is a little trimming to fit earlier models. Not much help at the moment, maybe someone else would chime in.

Hey, it was www.dashtop.com . They do not have the prices listed on their site. Look under toyota and it will show a little picture of a dash cover for an fj55, 73-80. If you search in the fj55 registry, you should be able to find the old discussion that said what minor modification was needed for earlier years. The site also lists about 15 different colors the the dash cover can come in.

I believe the dash tops are less than $100

later 55 dashpad into earlier pig conversion

I recently installed a later 78 dash pad onto the dash of my 71........was planning on severing the drop down portion(with the rear switch and L/C emblem) from the 71 dash as someone else had mentioned in a different thread and adding it to the more streamlined 78.........however, looks pretty decent as is........ install of the landcruiser emblem and tailgate window switch of the 71 was tight but workable......now have the built in light of the 78 dash(not yet wired) so @ some point I will not require a headlamp to see my instrument panel while driving in the dark ....Overall - later dash into an earlier pig works well and looks pretty damn fine.

Where in the B.C. Rockies are you? I will be there this summer..........most likely with a better dashpad in the piggie

I purchased one and it was cracked in a second after putting it on. A bit dissapointed but guessing I pushed too hard. Guessing it was user error and definetely not product failure.

I am going to save and get a new pad for my 71 if I can find one. I thought SOR only had the ones for the 73 and up models

The dash pad on my 78 had a soft vinyl stitched together cover that I transferred over to the 73 dash after some students thought they could just pull the dash pad off without taking out the nuts that I had carefully pointed out to them. It's pretty slick. I don't know if it's a commercially available part or if it's a custom thing.

Saw that when there, liked it but thought it was custom. Custom here means "never going to find a source..."

Has anyone thought about taking one of the new style caps and using a heat gun on it to form it to the old style dash.

If you bought it thru Ebay find your info on the transaction, then contact them via Ebay they will handle it I'm sure......... reference the transaction number in your communication.
Go into your feedback, find the transaction this way, you have to reference it to prove it came from them

Did you have multiple cracks all the way through the padding?

I love it, this sounds like my kind of install!

I had nightmares of glue and clamps and wavy finished product...

Mine snapped on too but I used the silicone to hold it in place and some cardboard as clamps while the silicone dried. You can see pics on my POTM thread http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pi...guatemala.html post #55 I think the cap sold on Ebay is probably the same one as Spector sells and is the one made by Palco in Reno, NV. There is no way there are two companies making this, the turnover would be way too low.

Butch,
Thanks for the ebay help. I did what you said and they emailed me asking for a contact number.
I will be hopeful that there is an easy repair.
