Wow there are some great looking pigs.
I can't believe I have been on Mud for years and I never went through the Owner's posts. There are some awesome 55 in here. I have been working on my 55 for 2+ years and I am almost finished. It has a nice story, but I will save that for Pig of the Month.
Cheers,
Ryan.

Thanks Heather - I will let you know about the winch and parts - I have to say that just the little driving I have done (to the coffee shop mostly) has me rethinking the power steering addition. FJ 40s are much easier to steer than the pig.

As posted in the other registry. Owned for 2 weeks at this point!!!
Owners Name - Chuck
Year - '72
VIN - FJ55...
Email - charlesbecker@mac.com
State FJ-55 resides - currently Oahu, HI
Any Modifications
Rebuilt F engine K&H Import Repair
Rebuilt 3 spd
Rebuilt Transfercase
Some kind of Man-a-fre add-a-leaf shackle lift
Receipts indicate an Aussie 40 front disc brake conversion
Interior is in pretty good shape. Exterior in suprisingly good shape, This 55 has only been in Hawaii for 4 months. It came from LA so rust is surprisingly minimal. I haven't finished totaling all the receipts but it has had approximately $8-9000 worth of work done to it in the last 5 years. Most interesting was that some of the work was done at TLC in Van Nuys.
I am keeping this thing FOREVER!! There are some items that will need to be worked through but its all part of the fun.
Future plans:
Get back to the mainland
Diesel swap or V8 or 2F (can't decide)
5spd

Ok, my turn. Yesterday I picked up a 1970 FJ55. It's kinda rusty with some holes and such, but mechanically sound with a strong running F. The price was right, and a lot of the stuff was stripped off it already for a restore when the owner passed away, sadly, and his son sold it to me with the condition that I take good care of it, restore it, and show him pics of the progress. I plan on doing my best, and will restore it like my 40 series. I will post pictures up as soon as I get my camera back, and for right now it sits outside wrapped in plastic and mothballed until I can get to it (college, etc.). I'll keep you all informed of the progress and post up a process plan so you guys can give me advice on her. Thanks!!

sounds like awesome conditions.
i fully plan on living up to a promise to take the son of a woman that i bought a horribly destroyed 77fj40 from, on a ride in my 45swb when i get it running. the 2f/4spd setup from that total is my 45s new heart and soul. the son was driving the 40 when it was tboned by a dodge minivan. kid suffered permanent brain damage, but he's alive and doing well, judging by the last time i saw him.

Hello everyone. First real post. Thought this would be a good place to start. I bought my '72 fj55 a couple of months ago.
Recently rebuilt original F motor all stock 'cept for elec ignition and header. The only things that don't work are the back-up lights and rear heater. Had original pto winch but PO had to remove when they replaced the header. I put new tires, starter and new coil, dist cap and rotor.
My dad and granddad both had a fj55. Glad to have mine.

Going to concentrate on giving this piggy some love this summer. Have a new carb and HEI dizzy ready to install. Needs new exhaust, headliner, and various other things. Right rear body mount needs to be cut out and replaced, for the most part rust is minimal. Rear window works like a champ ! I like driving this around cause most people don't know what it is !!

Newbie here!
Hello everybody! I'm a newbie with my first PIg. I will start a build up thread soon after I finish my FJ40 truggy. I am in the parts collection mode at the moment. I have a 1970 FJ55. Plans are 2005 6.0 vortec with 4L80E trans. Dana 44 front with 14 bolt rear.37" tires, partial exo cage with power steer and AC. This will be a nice street sometimes trail vehicle. I will post pics when someone tells me how. A little computer challenged.

Rusty 55 The new guy
I bought the 55 a month ago for nothing Finally got the title. It is a 76 FJ55 with a homemade spring over lift, (soon to be history) Homemade drag link so it doesn't drive worth a S*&^. This thing was one dirty piece when I got it. Still trying to get the smell of mouse pee out of the darn thing. I'm having the front end rebuilt at the moment and the lift fixed here in Boise by CAD, (not a cruiser guy but does monster trucks). Putting power steering in from a 1997 F250 4x4. It has a brand new Chevy 350 with all the goodies Wish it where a 6.0. Chevy 4 speed and NP205 transfer case. The drive lines are new. High Steer installed, 1990 toyota pick-up rear end installed, Double long travel front shocks and hoop installed. No shocks on the rear yet and need to make up some ps hoses.
I had pics but they are .bmp and mud won't take them. I'll get some.

Great looking pig! I would love to see more pics, does it have the barn style doors? Electric rear window or manual roll up/down? What is the seating configuration in the rear of the rig? Bench seat and more seating behind it, or?
You will have to purchase a 'silver star' in order to have unlimited picture posting power... I believe its $20, its totally worth supporting this site, you should get at least that much in savings through advice and instruction here on Mud. Other benefits as well...
Thanks for posting and welcome to the sty!

yeah i will have to look into the 'silver star'. Rear door is the ambulance style, seem thats all we got down here (australia), i actually want the tail gate style :P haha, the grass is always greener hey. so the windows are fixed glass i believe. rear is standard single row bench seat, and just behind that is the LPG tank.
i payed a deposit yesterday will go down next thursday to bring her home! but last night i thought to myself "is the baztard going to fit under the house?? hehe might have to get creative with a set of naked rims to roll her under the house :P will cross that bridge when i get to it
